Due Date Club February 2008:Crib or Bassinet ???

Girls I hope you can help esp the second time moms who stay in North America.

Am not getting down to any baby shopping as yet but I do find myself planning mentally. I am confused as to what should I invest in - a crib/cot a bassinet. If I go for the crib chances are it will stay in our bedroom for a year or more. If I go for a bassinet I would shift the baby to his/her room once he/she sleeps through the night. Now this is a norm in America but I am unsure if this doesn' t make the child insecure - Being separated from the parents so soon.
But as much as I want to raise a secure child I also want to raise an independent child. Net result confusion galore.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this issue of co-sleeping vs having their own room.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys

Hi Daisy,

I bought crib for my first child since it can be used until the child can move to a big bed. Bassinet is good until 5-6 months only. Cribs come with wheeels so it can be moved to a separate room when you want. I would go for crib. Whether you like co sleeping or not you can find out once the baby is out. Every mom is different, so just follow your heart and do what you want to do.

Good Luck,
CK

Dear Mommy,

I am from Jan board and one of my friend gifted me basinet for my first daughter and I hardly used it in night as baby used to get up often in night and I founf making her sleep with me convinient as in sleep I can feed her and during day time used basinet to make her sleep.

If u are okay making frequent trips to baby room in night then u can buy basinet & shift but then baby outgrow that quickly whereas Crib can be used for long time even when baby is toddler it can be changed to bed. So it is upto you to see how u want to invest

Daisy
