Hi friends,
i have a doubt regarding the flu shots. I stayin US and here people give flu vaccines to their babies before the winter. My son is 11 months old and iam little hesitant to go with the vaccines. Is this really necessary??? Have any of you gave ur kids flu vaccines at this age? Is this really helpfull? Please clear my doubts and i would be very grateful to you. Thanks in advance.

hi,

since you are in the US itd basically advisable to take the flu shot. my daughter now is 4 and she has been getting the shot regularly and my son 9 months he got his first shot yday. even if you dont send your child to the daycare and he doesnt come in contact with kids often...but what about going to public places like when you go shopping and so on?? the virus is in the AIR.... The other day my son was just normal and playing and he was just at home we did not bring him out anywhere but the night he was sort of coughing and in the morning he has a nose congestion and then he had the flu for 2 weeks.....see we did not go out at all so its best to take the shot and thats what my doctor explained.....Prevention is better then cure.
Of course our parents did not give us the flu shot and we are turn out to be ok...god' s grace those days there were different these days due to the exposure and so on we come in contact with so many illness....so it does not harm to take a shot in fact its only a prevention from getting the flu.......to off course not 100%. Anyway finally the decision is yours. All the best

please don' t take decisions about the flu shots because people say we did not have them when we were younger..times are different, and the flu strains are different..if u go out with your child a lot, even to stores, then i suggest u get it...if ur kid goes to daycare, then get it..little children getting the flu is very different than us adults getting the flu..i work in a hospital, have a sis and mom that are nurse and doctor, and it is horrible to see kids, little kids, that should not be there..my god, your husband could come home with the flu from his office, then what, quarantine your baby from him? if u both sit at home and go no where all winter, then don' t get it..

Hi Sri. I just got back from my 9mo appt yesterday and htey offered to give her the flu shot however my dr. said it was optional. It is only recommended if she was amongst the elderly or in a day care where there would be other kids who might fall sick. My baby doesnt come in contact with many other kids so I opted to not get her the shot. You will need to decide depending on your circumstances. The way I see it, our parents never gave us these shots and we turned out ok so why shouldnt our kids. :)
Goodluck
