Labour:Doubts regarding delivery
2010-04-10
Name: friend

Hi all,

I am 29 weeks pregnant. This is my first pregnancy, I am so much excited, somewhat worried and also having so much doubts regarding labour and delivery.

I will like to know the experiences of labour and delivery from second time moms and I hope you will also clear my doubts. I am in India so experiences from indian friends will help me a lot as the procedure of all the indian hospitals are almost same about delivery, I think so :)

My doubts -

Procedure of delivery? (your experiences)

Who is with us in labour room? (are they allow husband?)

Are they give us baby immidietly after birth for feeding? or wait to deliver the plecenta?

Are we need to shave pubic hair before going to hospital?

Approx how much time it take to deliver the baby first time?

When they shift us to the room?

What are the tests and medications for the newborn in first few days?

After delivery care for mother and newborn?

Thanks a lot for reading my message, I hope you will help me with my doubts.

It depends on the hospital - some allow husbands

It depends on the hospital again- they give the baby for feeding immediately. however if the baby is sick they might put in an incubator.

we dont need to shave pubic hair. most of times they shave.

how long it takes - depends on individual
My water bags broke at 7 am. paind started at 1 pm and i delivered at 6.30 pm.

they take blood test, sugar test, jaundice test, check for breathing..

they give bath to baby or infra red treatment for the mother for healing of stitches

i delieverd normally without episiotomy.

hii,u dnt have to worry abt delivery. My delivery was on Dec 21st, 2009(Monday). For me labour pain started on sunday almost 7pm onwards. I was expereincing back pain as well as the pain during periods. But i didnt go to hospital as i got a false pain before. At 3am fluid came outside and i was admitted. Labour pain comes at intervals. For me it lasted for 25 secs between 3 mins.

Iam in kerala so, in the hospital in which i was admitted nusring students were there. they helped me a lot. In some hospitals they allow the husband to accompny u. For me it was not ther. But they allowed my mom,mother-in-law &sister to see me.

They give us the baby only after delivering the placenta. It was such a nice experience tht when my son came out i felt very cool as my stoamch is empty, bcos for 9mnths i was carryng him.

For me the nurse shaved the pubic hair.

We cant predict how much time it will take. See in my case labour pain was ther for almost more than 12hrs. For my sister it was only 2hrs. Do physical job after 5mnths, like washing and walk a lot.

After delivery u have to pass urine then only they shift to the room.

I dnt remember all the test, but they check bilurubin of the baby. if its high he will be placed in the light. So try to show ur stomach sunlight morning and eve after 5mnths.

Drink lot of water after delivery, dnt be afraid of ur stomach, tht u can look later. Breast feeding is the best food for ur baby.

All the best....

RE:How to Prepare for Labour and Childbirth
Hello All,

I agree with the above comments. Now a days we can see all such classes. We have to be well educated about this Labour and other things before delivery. As I can see all these educations are being conducted Online with one on one sessions. Good thing is we don have to go anywhere or to fix an appointment. we take classes on our time at our convenien... - A Dad [View Message]
RE:Good Gyne in North Delhi
Hey rachna i am confused as in why you want to meet a gynae for your son you should instead go for an paediatrician. And gynae is for girls and women so i dont think he/she might be able to help out your son on medical issues.... - Richa [View Message]
