Hi all ,

I had my routine checkup yesterday. Everything was fine said the doctor. I casually asked her what is triple markers test. She said its being done to find the risk of baby having down' s syndrome and even i have to get it done.she then called me today to give my blood for the triple markers test. she conducted sonography to find out some details required for the triple markers test. I was happy to see my baby waving his/her hand at me. the growth of baby was fine the doctor said.

But the problem factor was noticed by me in the sonography report which said my baby has nuchal fold thickness of 9mm and i read in different sites that nuchal fold thickness of above 6 mm is not normal. Now all lies on the report of triple marker test which i will get on 17th.

I am really tense as the staff out there told me u are just 26yr old then why this test has been conducted??? I now feel i shldnt have even asked the doctor abt it. I really dont know what to expect. Does anyone here have any knowledge abt it pls share to help my mind ease a bit.

I agree with jichi, you should go for amniocentesis to fully confirm whether the baby realy has any defect. I agree your doctor must be very experienced but still whats the harm in doing amnio? please dont hurry things up. please ask your doc for amniocentesis done..!!
you will be in my prayers. everything will be fine. Ramya V replied. My husband did ask the doctor abt amnio. But she replied saying Sonography itself is enuff to diagonise it as its crystal clear. We are indeed going for a NT specialist for a second opinion on saturday.
I have already given my blood for Triple Marker test The result is expected on 17th . Even am shocked with Doctor' s reply that Amnio isnt necessary but then she is a very reputed n experienced doctor around my place.
my husband and myself are going through the worst tragedy in our life. We are ready to face it provided we know if the baby really has abnormality. The doctor didnt even give us 1% hope and straight away said we have to terminate the pregnancy.

i am very sorry that your doctor suggested to terminate the pregnancy. Did she suggest to go for further testing? ie, aminotic fluid testing? some of my friends got a false positive with bloodtest and unclear U/S. For all, who went for amnio, the results came negative which means no risk factor involved. Do ask whether she would suggest for this test...... Mahima replied. hii Ramya
infact its good you asked doctor i believe everyone should do it..its better to be alert...also I will suggest you to go for triple marker test so that the things will be more clear to you...there can be a mistake in sonography as some doctors fail to measure actual thickness(actually it should be right from neck to some specific bone)if possible ask doctor whther she was able to see nasal bone & chin of the baby cleary? dont worry just wait for your report..& pray to god that everything goes fine...for 26 yrs age risk factor is very less but still its good to do all required test.your baby will be healthy... I know it makes a mother very tensed but still be positive.
Or you can take second opinion from other doctor..I will pray for you & your baby.
