Name: New Mom Hello,

I am experiencing severe hair loss since last two months. I delivered a baby girl in the month of July and everyone says that hair loss is natural which starts from the 5th month of post delivery. I had below waistlength thick hair and now its become short upto my waist and has thinned a lot that I could not even braid my hair. So i have cut it to shoulder length to put a ponytail.
What should i be doing to promote hairgrowth and reduce hairloss ? Please advise.

Hair loss during pregnancy

There is nothing abnormal about shedding a lot of hair during and after pregnancy. It generally happens due to the change in your hormonalpfofile. Once your hornone levels return to normal your hair will regrow.

Eat nutritious diet full of vitamins and minerals, this will help in faster hair growth by providing nutrients to your hair follicles.

Yes the human head sheds about 100 hairs a day and when you' re pregnant you retain that hair. Naturally at some point you do need to shed that hair so the loss can see quite dramatic. However at this late stage if you' re still loosing I don' t think your pregnancy is the cause. Illness and tension can cause hair loss and if you' re concerned I suggest you speak with your gp and see if they feel this is normal or if you need to see a specialist. A round of routine blood tests may show you' ve been ill recently without knowing.
