Subject:  Durga puja is festival of devotion

I am a bengali(hindu) and we are the ones that celebrate Durga Puja. The rest of the Hindus celebrate Navrattas and durga ma is one of the avatars that are prayed to. They (north Indians Hindus) do it a lot different from us(orignally from the East). We celebrate durga Ma' s avatar for these days. We have a seperate day for Kali puja (nov or december) and another for Saraswati Ma (in jan usually). We say Durga Ma visits us on those days, her parents’ house. We especially go on saptami, ashtmi and navami to pray and party all day at the different puja pandals. It is when we do loads of cultural activities for those 3 days. bengali plays, musical theatre, singing, dancing, reading of poetry, etc.

Write that the victory of mother Durga over the demon signifies the victory of our inner goods over the lower impulses like greed, anger. So that what the celebration is about We worship mother Durga and defeat our lower nature and Mother Durga replaces hem with better things like compassion, mercy, patience, charity etc. There are three Goddesses worshipped during this festival that is Lakshmi, Saraswati and Kali. Lakshmi is for wealth and general happiness, Saraswati for Education and knowledge and Kali is the one who destroys evil. These nine days are also celebrated in most of India. In western India we have Dandiya raas or nine nights when everyone dances all night long.

Subject:  Great Hindu festival

Durga puja is the grand Hindu festivals where all our family members and relatives gather together to celebrate the welcome of goddess Durga with great enthusiasm and devotion. At the same time people in some regions enjoy Dandiya Raas. Some people play garba. Special Puja trips to traditional Puja pandals and temples outside Kolkata will cover famous Durga Puja pandals like Goswami Barir Puja in Serampore, Sheoraphuli Rajbari and temples like the terracotta Naba Kailash temple in Kalna. pooja pandal and do \" sindoor khela\" . When married women meet and put sindoor on each other.
