Due Date Club December 2006: Archie: Should I use misoprostol??

Hello Archie

First off I would like to thank you for helping so many pregnant ladies with all their queries and fears. You have been our knight in shining armor :)

Now I am due on 24th Dec and my OB tells me that she will wait until 26th for me to go into labor on my own. If I don't, she wants to induce me on 27th AM with misoprostol..brand name Cytotec. Now I have read really bad things about this tab, so wanted to ask you if it is safe for me? My OB has been godsent and great with me so far but I am a little worried about her decision to induce me with this drug. Heck...I was hoping my baby would come out on her own...anyways could you please advise me on this. TIA

If this your first baby then using prostaglandins as a first step of induction is quite common and this is what misoprostol is about. If you have had C-section and this is subsequent pregnancy then Misoprostol is contraindicated.

Since how to manage post-date pregnancy vary from hand to hand nothing much can be said besides hoping that you will make progress before 24th.

go and have intercourse and long walks.

good luck and get excited even if things don't start before 26 because your baby is going to be in hand on 27th by latest.

Hi Archie, thank you very much for your prompt reply. This is my first baby and I have conceived after struggling with three years of IF so I want to make sure I don't do anything that will harm my unborn miracle.

I guess since this is my first pregnancy then going ahead with the misoprostol should be of no harm. I am walking lots, eating pineapple, doing nipple stimulation etc but no intercourse because my hubby is little worried. Guess will have to wait and watch with fingers crossed.
