Congrats all you new moms!! I am from feb 2006 group. I am from CA, USA. I had a question regarding naming the baby. Here they name the bbay before they are discharged from the hospital until in India which is a few days after the birth and some do it based on the timing of birth. Could some one tell me why is that folks name their babies before they get discharged? Is it mandatory or convience reasons? What if I wanted to doing it like in India.....find out the alphabet according to birth timing and then decide the name, What would the implications be? Kindly let me know. vara replied. well it is not mandatory...but hospital guys applies for birth certificate and if the name is finally decided then it will go in SSN also..and then passport...u can no doubt name the baby temporarily but then when evrt u will have final documents u have to again apply for name change evrywhr so it is kind of convinient to name before discharge..

u will have 48 hrs to decide before discharge...even we asked in India the alphabet just after birth abd then just before discharge we filled in tha papers after naming from that alphabet...do keep in mind some names from most of the a;phabets so that it will help u in deciding that time..
