Due Date Club April 2004:Crib...

Some of my friends( Indian and chineese ) are telling me that crib is not required for Indian/chineese babies since they tend to sleep with mom and dad all the time even though they have crib. Well, since I'm the first time mom, I don't know much about this. Can you please share your experiences and thoughts...I don't want to spend 300-400$ for the crib and accessories if it's not really useful :(

Sree,

Sorry for the late post, getting bit lazy these days ;-)

I too am planning to buy a crib for our baby as like Jenn mentioned it will give u also a good night sleep without worrying about turning and accidently putting your hands or blanket on the baby. I do have friends who have tried both ways and from their experience too I think a crib is a better option for a very small baby than sharing the bed with you. About feeding and changing... I think even if the baby is with u or in a crib near your bed you have to get up to change their diapers so I dont think there is a big difference if we keep our baby near you.

This is my thoughts... so no offence for all those who think otherwise.

hi sree

I n my opinion a crib is not an immediate necessity coz in the first few months frequent feeding and changing will be easier if the baby is nearer to u than walking all the way to the crib each time the baby cries.Later when the baby sleeps for longer hours u can use it.I am not planning to buy one rightaway, but wait some time.this is however my opinion
The decision must be taken by u
take care
bye

i know this suggestion might be a bit late, since you already have got the crib,. well even i bought the crib., my reason behind buying one is that our bed is pretty small where 3 of us might not fit in comfortably, also there is the worry of the baby 's fsace unknowingly being covered by blanket, when iam sleeping, might get hard for baby to breahte, and chances are when i turn or change sides i might crush babys arm or somehting, also if the baby get accustomed to sleep next to you, baby might not listen anytime to sleep away from you and may get into the habit of always wanting you and not being independent.. so i bought the crib, where baby will feel secure as there are railings,, and also i need not worry abt the face being covered by blanket or crushing,,
hope it makes you feel glad that you bought the crib..
well this is my opinion,, so no offence meant to anyone who intends not to buy a crib

It totally depends on how you want it to be. Like I can not have my baby sleep in a crib which is in a different room. I would like to have my baby sleep with me beside me so that I can see him/her all the times. It is not to save 300-400 $. Its just because I want it to be like that.

Its your personal preference. I know some moms from indian origin who do have cribs and use them too. So its your personal preference.
