Was your employer supportive when you informed the office about your pregnancy? What benefits were you entitled to? Have you ever heard of the Maternity Benefits Act?

With all this talk of maternity leave for women, why can' t we have leave for fathers too? After all, do they not also need time to spend with their children? I would like to see men also be allowed to take some time off to look after their children and be with their wives. In fact such leave is provided to men also in some really good organisation also they get some benefits for their new born child. It is essential for them too after all they also need to experience the joy of fatherhood. However, such things are of least important for some companies, they only think of their own profit.

The laws may be there but I do not think that this works. In many companies, they will not give you that much leave. There are many people vying for the same job so it does not really matter if you are there or not. They can afford to let you walk out. In fact more care should be taken by women. She should find out in advance about the maternity benefits provided by an organisation before joining it. This can help to avoid the possible misunderstandings in future. Such laws are always ignored by companies as they do not benefit much from it on the other hand they just ask employee to leave.

I was not aware that this Maternity benefits act existed. When I was pregnant, my company took good care of me. They gave me three months maternity leave and allowed me to go home little early if I felt sick. I am no longer working for them but I will never forget how nice they were to me. This policy should be followed by each and every organisation in the world. I think this should be made a part of business ethics as pregnant women have to face lot of problems in an organisation sometimes. Also government should keep track whether these rules are followed or not.
