Due Date Club December 2006:Archie.... pls help!!

Hi Archie,

This is Meghana. I have been a silent member on this board but have been regularly going thru all the posts and ur replies.

I am a little worried at present since I had my USG done today. Its supposed to be 37w5d for me now. But the USG shows the growth at 35 weeks.

My LMP was 15th Mar and EDD happens to be 22nd Dec. But then EDD was 17th Dec in the first USG(14 weeks)and then went on to be 23rd Dec in the 21st week.

Can you pls advice me as to why my date has been fluctuating so much.
Now that the growth shows to be at 35 weeks which is almost 3 weeks behind the actual I m really worried. Is it really a matter of concern? I have an appointment with my Doc day after.

Thanks in advance.....
Meghana

Meghna,
Lets shed good ray before getting on to possible complications.
It does not sound as radical as you present from the post though your concern is fair on the ground.
Your baby is beyond 34 weeks and in a week will have a fully matured lungs so I would not be worried about due date change, besides it's nearly close to term.

If this was around 28 weeks then I would have worried on IUGR Possibility and even if that exist today won't have that bad influence on pregnancy outcome, so relax.

I however feel you need a repeat sonogram in about 2 weeks to see this was not due to sparse growth and baby is just growin with the same gap as found on 35 weeks (US estimates) calcuation.

Nervous system develops more intense during third trimester and a few months after birth. Similarly eye development also completes after birth for some it takes totally six months to gain a right pigment for eye.

I don't really think the delay you have seen might influence baby at the level you envisioning.

Thanks a lot Archie.... I have been worried on this front coz I have a younger sibling who has been mentally challenged. And I have heard that the brain development happens arround the last month.
Will you be able to tell me if the baby would have any complications bcoz of the growth difference?

Thanks a lot once again.....
