My daughter has a very erratic feeding schedule. As she was kind of premature, earlier she used to feed very less on breast, as she was too tired to feed for long time. I used to pump and feed her. Nw she is 4 mths old and in between she did breast feed properly, but nw since this week she has again gone back to feeding slowly. Sleeps off in 10 mins after feed, and when i put her in the crib she cries cos her tummy is not full. I have got stuck in this cycle of feeding her every half hour since last 2 days, and its painful. Cant pump cos find that too painful.

Sometimes when its unbearable i give her formula but thats limited to just once a day. Prefer to feed her rather than give her formula.

I need advice from experienced hands how to handle this situation. I am in Germany, and alone. Dun have any support.. hence u guys must be knowing how difficult its to manage it outside india... please help... ASAP Anisha replied. Hi Aras,

Don't worry. Relax. I am having baby of 11 weeks old. She was exactly the same situation once she crossed 3 weeks till 6th week. It was very hectic time, I can say. And my observation is due to colic pain... , i.e. due to gas. Because of gas little one can't know the difference. So buy Woodwarts gripe water and give in the morning. It will help u a lot. And also don't give feed very often. Make her to understand feeding time is only once in 2 hour. Then she can take it with eager and won't go to sleep also. And also try to keep some wet cloth under her ear (this technique is given by one of our July board friend Vaidehi and will work well) and make her alert to suck.

Take care of yourself, relax, drink plenty of fluid, this will give u good milk supply. And never think that ur milk supply is short, have lot of confidence, because this is the time to establish ur milk. I was having the problem of milk supply during that time and only once I given formula to her and tried hard to manage teh situation. And also add lots of garlic in your food, this will reduce the gas. If she is passing the gas so much and getting so much trouble while passing motion, try to give hing (asafoetida) massage in her stomach along with ur expressed breast milk and put a small piece of hing tied in a cloth in her neck.... this will help her to breath the smell of hing and will relieve the gas automatically.

Don't think ur managing alone, lots and lot girls are managing the situation alone (including myself) and so wonderfully. So take care. Relax.
