Hi,

I am 34 weeks pregnant and flying to my parent place for delivery so my doctor will change now. My doctor never did internal check up till date. But I have heard that some doctors do internal checkups regularly and its quite uncomfortable and embarrasing. Can I convery my new doctor not to do the same

HI Saanvi,
Dont worry about the internal exam. There is nothing to be embrassed of.THe doctor does and internal check up for the very first visit to see whether the uterus seems pregnant and whether it is an ectopic pregnancy or anything else? The doctor just determines whether everything is ok or not during the first visit.

For the successive visits there may not be any internal exams until and unless u have some problems regarding spotting or anything worth worrying.

But now that you are 34 weeks pregnant , the doctor might do the internal check up around 38th to 40th week to see whether the cervix is ripe enough for the delivery and some time even determines whether you will have a normal delivery or is C-section is necessary.THis is very rare determination of the type of delivery.SOme doctors do it.

So dont be embrassed or uncomfortable. If the doctor wants to perform the exam then kindly do it.After all we all want the welfare of the baby and prevent any problems later on..

better pick a lady doctor (if your doctor isin' t a lady)so that you will not be embrassed so much.

I am 31 weeks pregnant. There is no need to feel embarassed or scared if the doctor is doing an internal check up. My doctor used to do my internal check up in the starting stages just to check that all is ok.

So, dont take any tensions.

U take care,

Bye,

Meeta
