Name: shilpi
Birth story
Friday (27 Jan): Went for my regular appointment - NST was performed - nothing unusual - except for one strong contraction.
The doctor did an internal examination and found out that my cervix was soft. So she decided that if I do not go into labour
normally, she would induce me on the 3rd, a day before my due date, because my baby was small and she did not want me to go
beyond my due date (I was very relieved to hear that, because I wanted to deliver so badly, if she had opted for induction on
the same day I would have readily agreed, though my husband did not. I more than hal wished at that time he was pregnant
instead of me :-) )
Sunday: I had some pretty painful contractions, but not very strong ones and neither regular.
Monday (30 Jan): Another NST was done, some minor contractions and baby's heartbeat was fine. But had dilated upto 1 cms. In
the evening I treated myself to a Pizza at Pizza Hut (if you guys are wondering why I gave that info, you'll soon know why
:-) )
Tuesday(31 Jan): I had some contractions from 11:00 am onwards, and they came every one hour - not very painful ones, but
they were regular, and whenever I ate anything I passed motion. I called my doctor at about 3:00pm and she thought I was in
labour - especially because I had passed motion 4 times. This is where Pizza Hut played a role. It seems I was not in labour
after all - but had an upset stomach because of Pizza. Nevertheless we packed our bags, I had a bath and left for the
hospital at about 5:30. We dropped Aarya, my son at my mom's place, picked up my sister, and went to the hospital. We reached
the hospital at about 7:00pm. The resident doctor examined me, and I had dilated a little more than Monday, but not much, and
when put on the NST, my contractions also went away, there was hardly anything recorded. My doctor came in at about 8:30pm
and we mutually decided to go for induction, instead of going back home and coming back. She gave me a very strong dose,
because of which my contractions started coming really fast and painful ones. She came back in at about 11:00pm and I had
dialted upto 4+ cms. She asked me if I wanted Epidural, and I said no at that time, but asked her if the option was available
incase I wanted one later. She said yes. At about 12:00, I vomitted and then later asked for epidural, by then I had already dilated upto 7+cms, and she told me that max I would deliver in an hr, so epidural wouldn't be a good option, but I still insisted on getting one. Then she kept talking to me for about 1/2 an hr, about something or the other to distract me, and I kept asking for epidural :-) Though at that time i was in a lot of pain, later when I thought it over it was really very funny, for every question she asked me I only said \"; I am in pain, I need epidural\";. Anyway at 12:45 I started screaming with pain, and said I needed epidural and she said 15 mins, After about 10 mins she asked me to push and I said I won't if she doesn't give me epidural :-) Anyway when I realized that she wouldn't listen, I started to push, and 3 pushes and the baby came out at 1:03am :-) Then I pushed the placenta out, and later they sewed me up. After about 3 hrs, when I was moved to the recovery room, did I get to see Aahana - and she looked so beautiful - like an angel. Oh and if you are wondering why 3 hrs - actually after I had pushed the placenta out, they discovered that something had ruptured in the uterus, looked like placenta remains, but they weren't because the placenta came out intact, so it took them about 45 mins to get everything out of the uterus and then sewing took another 15-20 mins, After that they gave me a shot, after which I kept passing motion for about 30 mins. And in the meantime Aahana was put in the incubator because she was so small.
2nd Feb: Morning: I was discharged from the hospital and came back home.
