Miscarriage and Child Loss:Miscarriage twice
2008-07-10
Name: Lilac

I had two miscarriages between July 2007 and May 2008. The first one was a missed abortion and D&C performed at 10 weeks as heart beat was not seen. The second one was a blighted ovum at 7 weeks and i miscarried naturally. Myself and my husband did some blood tests, all blood tests are normal for both of us. Husband' s semen analysis showed a discrepancy from normal and he has been advised to take medicines for 1 month and do a re-test. He will be doing a re-analysis sometime in another 1-2 weeks. Meantime I feel i should go ahead and do a follicular study and / or take a 2nd opinion. The above tests were done at my home town with a reputed doc, so should we repeat the tests again at our current place (Bangalore)? If yes, what other tests should I do, best places for follicular study in Bangalore? Folks, we need your help.

Hi Sangeeta and Lilac I found you two by google searching and I am surprised that you are both tested for thrombophilia, which I thought was very rare. My father has a serious DVT condition, he got it at 25. I miscarried three months ago. I am pregnant again. I am taking Susten, HCG injection weekly, ecospirin, Folic acid and B complex tablets.

I dont know how/where to get tested/screened for thrombophilia in India? I live in Goa. Should I go to a hematologist or something?

I am happy to see Sangeeta already had a healthy baby. That feels optimistic. I am 7 weeks pregnant. Going for ultrasound on Sep 10th!

Thanks i' m due in September first week. I did take folic acid before getting pregnant, since that is needed right from the first day of conception. My doc also had given me ecosprin-75mg, folic acid, doxinate and microgest for first 3 months of pregnancy. He did not see the need for heparin, my thrombophilia screen was around 0.6% in the 8th week of pregnancy. But he would check with sonography almost every 3 weeks till i got to the 4th month. Actually in this state, the first 3-4 months are scary, I was in tension throughout because since we cannot feel the baby movements, its difficult to know how its doing...dont mean to scare u, just be prepared and everything will go well :-)

Since I was heterozygote (that is inherited from one parent), my doc put me on aspirin, which I take till now, and progesterone for the first three months. He also put me on Doxinate (Vitamin B6) for first three months. He did regular sonographies till the fourth month to check the state of fetus. Also he said that the thrombophilia may act up again at 30 weeks, so I did another sonography to check the blood flow in the umblical cord, thankfully its normal. I believe if the thrombophilia screen is less than 0.4, then heparin injections have to be given throughout. Anyway, best of luck for your pregnancy, dont lose hope:-)

Thanks, Sangeeta and congrats on your pregnancy. When are you due? My doc has suggested to take folic acid till i conceive and then as soon as i find my hpt to be positive, i need to take ecosprin and then on first visit she will suggest whether to go for heparin or not. did you take any medications other than folic acid before you got pregnant?

Hi, I had a similiar problem, I suffered two early miscarraiges, but now I am eight months pregnant. I also have a son, prior to the miscarraiges. My doctor diagnosed it as due to positive thrombophilia screen (heterozygote). Its basically a condition that can cause abortion sometimes due to formation of blood clots in the vein that supplies blood to the fetus. Also since its an inherited condition, abortion is almost certain if the fetus has inherited the condition. I suggest you get yourself tested for this condition , I consulted a doctor in Pune. He them put me on medication when I got pregnant again, and no problems till now.
