So whats the lastest news from everyone. Mine still the same no dilation, though i have my appt 2morrow .

Frankly , i am getting a little anxious . I was hoping that i wud surely deliver by now . But it seems like an endless wait. All our preparation for the baby is done , just waiting for him/her to arrive. I still have 9 days to go till by DD ( sep 21st)

Vidya , what about you ? we were in the same boat-NO DILATION. Do you feel any kind of pain/heaviness in the pelvic area?

I kinda feel little pressure , but not what the doc said it shud feel like .

Archie , is dilation always a gradual process in fisrt time moms or can it occur over few hours too??? I am a little concerend that since i had not dilated at all till 8th sep ( my last check up) i think i might cross my due date. I really don;t want that to happen.

Btw , Archie from past 11-13 days , i feel it's easier to change side while sleeping. I very little discomfort when it comes to breathless. I thought that, all this meant the baby has moved in the pelvic region , but on my last check up the doc said the baby has not even decended. could u pls explain what this means?

anyways waiting for ur reponses. I am looking forward to my appt 2morrow . will post an update .Hoping to hear some good news.

archie replied. Dear Archana,
Indu made a good advise and it's fairly sufficient, yet I am adding a few lines.

Dilation can take place few hours to few weeks prior to delivery.
Some girls will dilate 2 cm even before week 36 and won't progress and can cross their EDD, so no worries on Dilation please.

Feeling not breathless is a sign of lightening means baby dropping down towards pelvis, your baby is yet not engaged, it's some sort of half way and will happen in next two weeks.

Do not get concerned about your not dilating cervix.

To aid dilation.

Drink Raspberry tea,

Keep walking exercise continued, try to walk up the stairs, little careful if you are not walking on stairs in pregnancy.

Engage into sexual activities.

Let me assure you there is nothing surprising if you or members cross given EDD. It's common to go postdate while first time mother.

I delivered Advait after EDD, I was closed until actually went in labor.


Enjoy last sleeping nights and prepare for sleepless nights in queue.

I was going through your post..Dont worry about the dilation. Everything depends on the person's body constitution. Once the head gets set and the baby is engaged, it is a matter of a day before the baby is delivered. The cervix ripening can happen in a period between dawn and
dusk. It is that quick. Enjoy your pregnancy. My advance wishes to you.

Archana, dont worry if the due date is crossed. It is OK. You can wait till 41 weeks (as long as you have movements) after which you can consult your doctor for inducing. Generally doctors dont wait after 42 weeks.

Some tips:

1. Do keep walking. (If you feel easy to breathe, it means lightening has happened.)

2. Monitor your baby kicks. If you feel it is less, dont panic but call your doctor. Once you have crossed 37 weeks, it means the baby is safe and you can be deliver by inducing. But why hurry when the baby wants to stay cosy in your womb as long as it can?

3. Eat healthy food and drink lots of water.

4. Start buying dresses and napkins for your baby.
