Subject:  buy nursery rhyme DVDs

As a child we learnt all the well known nursery rhymes like itsy bitsy spider, hickory dickory doc, humpty dumpty, twinkle twinkle little star, and ba ba black sheep. Now technology has grown so I have chosen a new way to teach my child nursery rhymes. I have bought a few DVDs of the nursery rhyme. Sometimes I visit you tube and make my daughter watch the rhyme videos on my laptop. She has learnt to recite poems and to enact them. She loves the poem, teddy bear, teddy bear. She herself becomes a cute teddy and act out the entire poem. Whenever we have any family gathering, many of our relatives ask her to mimic a poem. They love the way she enacts poems.

Subject:  learning rhymes improves IQ

When my child was a toddler I used to sing fro him. I had bought books of nursery rhymes and stories. Those books were colourful and full of pictures. Learning nursery rhymes surely encourage children to develop liking for reading. As your article says, it also improves memory and IQ level. I can say so as now my son is 11 years old and he loves to read books and to make poems. He insisted me to take him to the library. I took him there and made him a member. Now he goes there with his friend and picks up the book he likes. I make it sure to ask him what lesson he learnt from the book. I also make it sure that he reads every book he gets from the library. Sometimes he makes his own stories and read them to us. I feel proud of him that he is reading.

Yes, I narrate stories and read poems for my three year old. Like a story in your article, telling stories and reciting poems is our everyday bedtime activity. My son and I also come up with our own poems. I give him some rhyming words and he makes sentences out of them. For example, I give him words like-cat, mat, hat, rat, and then he makes sentences and use one of these words as the last word of each sentence. Yesterday he came up with a funny poem out of these words. ‘We have a cat, she seats on the mat, and we have a rat that hides under the hat, to see the cat’. This is the poem he made. He enjoy singing nursery rhyme a lot. He knows most of the nursery rhymes by heart.
