Due Date Club February 2006:Question for Archie and others

Hi!
I am 38 weeks pregnant and had my docs visit today. The doc did an internal examination and told that the cervix is not opened and that the baby is still positioned high up(head down). She suggested that we wait until next week and see, if the baby is still high then she suggested that she would open an elective C-section option to us. I just wanted to know if thats the best option. I am ok in undergoing the Csection BUT just wondering if the elective Csection is the best decission at that point?

Also if it is worth waiting to try naturally or induce and give that a chance? The doc says that the baby seems to be on the higher 7 lbs weight may be close to 8 lbs. Any suggestions? I really have no clue what is best for the baby.

Hmmm. I think I am a little lost here - because I am in a similar situation - lightening hasn't occurred for me either - and yet my doctor is ready to induce me this Thursday. I got a second opinion from Archie about that and she told me to go my doctor's way. But I am sure if your doctor says C-section is the only option, it probably is. And I do agree that delivering a 9 punds baby vaginally would be very difficult and you might end up having a C-section eventually - though not necessarily. And one more thing during some of my earlier conversations with Archie, she mentioned that even with her first pregnancy, lightening happened just before she went into labor - I think wait for Archie's reply, and see what she has to say about this.

Hi,
Archie would be the best person to comment on this, especially because the baby is probably close to 8 pounds. But I do know of people who have delivered an 8 pounds baby vaginally, so I am still not sure why you would want to opt for a C-Section and not induction. And anyway you never know anything can happen in the next 2 weeks, lightening might occur and you might go into labor normally without any medical help. If I were in your place, C-Section would be my last option, if nothing else helps. But wait for Archie's comments. She would be the best judge on this.
I am 39 weeks pregnant and I going for an induction a day before my due date.

Hi!
The doc told that if the baby had dropped then she would have thought of induction IF I didn't get into labor myself. Now she says that it is not so good to try induction as the baby is still high up. And also if we need to induce then she would do it in my 40th week. So she thinks that the baby might be like 9 lbs or so by then. The wieght actually at this pt is not a major concern she herself told that 8 lbs babies many deliver vaginally BUT since the baby has not dropped then situtation.
