Due Date Club December 2006:Archie & others pls help

Hi Archie and everybody,

I'm in my 34 weeks due on 16th Dec. From couple of days, my skin in my neck region and underarms have become dicolored, even though i scrub them clean they've turned almost black.

Then i've got itching all over my body, i've been getting up in the middle of the night itching somewhere or the other, with rashes breaking out...

I've also got a sore throat ...

My ob-gyn sent me to my primary care who did a blood test and a throat culture - the results will come in 3 days, but she suspects the rashes/itching to be due to some liver disease, and suspects the discoloration to be pre-diabetes. Even though i tested negative in my GD test in august. She says she will do a complete analysis 6 weeks after the baby is born. She thinks there could be insulin imbalance which is causing the skin discoloration. But she can't perfrom any tests right now. My nanaji is a diabetic!! I'm really worried. Please help me. Any info will help.

Thanks
Poochy

Hi,
Even my SIL had the same problem of itching and blacking of neck, underarms, breast and tummy area during both of the pregnancies . but everything became normal after delivery of the kids. So this is one of the side effects of pregnancy which might fade away after delivery .
Good luck,
KAvya

I am sure its very frustrating to deal with this but it does sound like liver problem. In rare cases you see preg. women have this but when you have itching and especially to that extent were discoloration and breaking skin is involved they suspect liver problem (Cholestasis ).One of my neighbour was told but fortunately it all work out in the end i will pray you get good result .This problem like many preg. related skin condition clears shortly after delivery.Your doc. may see results and he may recommend early indcution depending on the severity of your condition that's what i knew from her since me and her would talk about preg. a lot. how is her and mine to learn for each other right.
you know ya this is what she told me i called her what she also did what help her
* Wear loose cotton clothing.
* Itching may be soothed by dissolving a cup of soda bicorbonate in your bathwater (this you use even when you have UTI i am the victim of UTI that's what i do also great help ! and bath like in a bucket or shower no tub).
* Try dabbing calamine lotion onto itchy skin - especially soothing if you keep the bottle in the fridge.

* A few drops of lavender oil and/or tea tree oil (you can find one in drug store) in your bath may also offer relief from itching, . Tea tree oil was especially helpful to her and i have read about it a lot also.
* Treat sweat rashes by washing frequently in cool water, and sprinkling on non-perfumed talcum powder.

pl. pl. stay relax i know its to much to ask but stay on the top of this i am sure doc. must be or will be watching you and the baby very closely.
Take care and hope to hear a good news from you

Hi Poochy,
I have an 8 month old baby and was very much addicted to this page during my pregnancy. I thought why not giving some help today.

I also had that discolouration problem with the neck and underarm which is due to some hormonal disbalance and which is quite normal during pregnancy. After delivery, it will disappear. No need to worry. The itching must be sue to stretching of skin whihc is also normal.
Please do not worry and take rest.
Take care
Angeli

Hi hopingfortejas, soni, angeli,

Thanks a lot for your replies, it definitely makes me feel so much better. They did another blood test today, i hope everything comes out okay.

soni, i will try these remedies. thanks a ton.

angeli it was a relief to read that you too had the skin discoloration and it went away, sometimes i think the doctors really scare you for nothing.

love
