Due Date Club December 2006:Archie, TA...and all second time moms.....

Hello everybody,

I had a scary experience on saturday. We went to a nearby store for shopping and all of a sudden everything looked dark for me and I couldn't see anything. I told my husband that something is happening and asked him to hold me as I was feeling a little dizzy. Within no seconds, I lost my consciousness and I had fainted. Thank God, I didn't slump on the floor, instead he made me sit slowly on the ground. He said that, i was out for 15 to 20 seconds. After that I opened my eyes.
We came back home and immediately called the doctor. She said, it might be due to sudden fall in the blood pressure which is very rare for me. My BP level is always normal, not just in pregnancy but all through my life. She asked me to come to emergency room if there's still any problem.

Though I was OK, I was very worried and shocked for my experience. I called her back and said that I will come to emergency room to make sure everything is OK. I was under observation for 2hrs. They continously monitored baby's heartbeat. My BP level was read every 15mins. Sugar level and oxygen intake was tested. Everything was just normal. I don't know why I had fainted all of a sudden.

Archie, could you please tell me what could be the reason why I lost my consciousness and fainted? I am now 34weeks2days. This happened 3days back. I am still seeing my doctor once in a month. My next regular appointment is on Nov 8th when I will be 35weeks2days. Hopefully, I'll have weekly appointments from then. Waiting for your replies.

Takecare and Goodluck to all moms,
blessed_mom

What a scary experience you had. Was it some hours since your last meal? As Archie said it might have been a sudden dip in your BP. Do consume iron rich foods and iron supplements in case your HB levels are low. Ofcourse, the doctor is the best bet. I thought that by this time you should be meeting the doctor every two weeks. Once you hit 36 weeks it is once a week.

Take it easy and eat well. My best wishes, TA

hi blessed_mom,

It is so unbelievable i had a similar experience 4 days back... except that i didn't faint, but i was very dizzy and was sweating profusely, when i called my dr she asked me to go to the hospital, where they monitored me for 2 hrs.. sugar, oxygen everything was checked and they said everything was normal. I've always had low BP 110/60's but at that time it was 110/78!! so i dont know if that was the reason. I too have my next appointment on 8th nov.

Well i hope you are doing fine.
Let me know what your dr tells you.
Take care,
love

blessed_mom,
it still could be from low BP at that point. BP fluctuations are quite normal at this stage of pregnancy.
I would strongly recommend glucose test repeat at your Drs. office, and HB levels along with you personally taking BP measurements at home twice or thrice a day.
