I am a little confused whether I should buy a travel system which comes with an infant car seat or buy a stroller and a convertible car seat which can be used for an infant and a toddler individually? Can an infant - abt a month old sit in a stroller without a car seat?

To answer your questions I think a convertible car-seat which they say can be used by infants as well as toddlers is not a good option for the very reason that infants are not very comfortable in these types of car-seats as these car-seats don't recline as much as the infant car-seats do.

I've a 5 yr. old daughter and we got her the infant car-seat and when she turned 1, we got her the toddler car-seat.
I've a friend who got the convertible car-seat but had to get another one because her infant son was not at all comfortable in it. The car-seat does'nt support their neck and back very well. I hope this clears your doubts.

Buying a stroller system is a good option but just keep in mind that the stroller can be folded easily by one hand and is not very heavy. Also keep in mind that the infant car-seat should have a detachable base.

And lastly an infant cannot seat in a stroller without a car-seat. The baby probably won't be able to do that till it can support it's neck and back. You don't want to put pressure on his back bones. They are still very fragile.
