Due Date Club February 2006:My u/s update - Archie pl. help

Hi Archie,

Happy New Year.
Y'day i had an appointment with my Doctor. My ultrasound findings are as under:
GA by MA - 34w2d
GA by USG - 33w5d
BPD - 78.8 mm
Fetal position - Breech
AFI - 8cm.
Largest Vertical pocket - 3cm.
Fetal weight - 2240 gm.
Placental grade - 2
Impression - Normal biophysical profile & umbilical Doppler studies
Borderline amniotic fluid pockets.

Archie, now my doctor says that since AFI is on lower side, the baby's position is not likely to change and the baby may have to be taken out early with c-section. An ultrasound after 2 weeks is advised.
I will request your advise on the following:
1. How to improve AFI level?
2. What about the weight of the baby?
As per the earlier u/s done on 24th Nov., the AFI level was 10.1 cm and the weight of the baby was 1055 gm. I am not afraid of c-section but i would like to carry the baby for the maximum weeks. My EDD is 15th Feb.

Kindly help me.

Pooja

Pooja,
your baby has no problem except position.
try to drink lot of water and take plenty of bed rest. That might help improving afi. drink gatorade brand smart water or fruit juices. don't do extra activities. I am not sure how much it will improve though.

it's the time of gestation when afi keeps fluctuating I would not worry too much unless you feel trouble finding baby movements or severe cramps in lower abdomen. remember to keep track of baby movements.

baby is of normal weight 4 pound and 14 ounces, pretty good.

you should keep upated movements and next ultrasound updates.

don't keep mind against C-section because if afi does not improve you might deliver baby in 37th week through C-section. This will be good for baby. YOu stressing will not help to improve afi or delivery option.

I am not telling what you want to hear but trying to keep things in right perspective.
