Dear October expectants!
How to manage a post date pregnancy?
The 40 weeks is too long journey and most of you have been through excitement, anxiety and so much more. It must have been mixed experience from time to time. When waiting desperately to hold your little one crossing due date can be frustrating and worrisome aspect. Here is something that may help you knowing about postdate pregnancy management.
How to and when to deliver postdate pregnancy is mainly depends on your OB. Some OBs are comfortable and can let girl complete 42 weeks of gestation. Some on the other hand don’t want to wait even for 41 weeks completion and just want to induce labor as soon as possible. I am sure some of you may want to wait for natural labor process to begin but most of you tired of going to through huge tummy each a day and want to hold your little on soon possible and therefore don’t mind if induced in your 41st week of gestation.
What are consequences of postdate baby.
Yes, the postdate means baby will continue to grow and may lead to increase size and sometime the size that’s not possible to be delivered vaginally. Condition is called Macrosomia and baby is Macrosomic baby. This sometime leads to C-section possibility.
Also anywhere in or after week 40 placenta starts function less and there is a slight risk of placenta deterioration. But some Dr. want to do BPP or NST on regular basis while pregnant girl is asked to wait for 42 weeks completion. This is fair enough to judge whether or not one must wait for nature labor process or get into induction business.
Meconium is first stool passed by foetus may occur around week 40 and chance is that amniotic fluid is being contaminated with the stool. This if swallowed chances of pneumonia that’s not indeed detrimental are likely but one can not judge it by NST , true that NST is an indication that baby heart is functioning fine. Some of the Dr. who want mother to wait for 2 more weeks would want her to take NST almost each day, 5 days a week and fair enough.
Primavera is term referred to first time expectant mother and condition is that where she is crossing EDD. This is common and not surprising at all. But discuss openly with your OB about your postdate concern and get comfortable with his/her choice on handling your case.
I wish you all good luck and healthy vaginal birth of your healthy littleone.
