What do you do for cough/mild congestion during pregnancy. I am in my 27th week and have cold and congestion and keep coughing.

How are you?? I'm Alpana and I'm in my 29th week now.

Well I suffered from a severe case of cold and cough in early December. The doctor told me to take the \";non-drowsy Sudafed\"; for the congestion and \";Robitussin DM\"; for the cough. But before taking these medications please consult your doctor. In my case my cough was so bad that I was not able to sleep at night and was coughing very hard. And the cold & cough medicines were also not working for me. So finally I stopped taking the cough & cold medicines and had to take the antibiotics. If coughing is mild I don't think it affects the baby.

For the congestion as Mansi said you can use vicks. Try using a humidifier that will also help with the cough. Also you can try household remedies like taking warm milk mixed with Haldi(turmeric) Also when you are sleeping elevate your head with an extra pillow.

When I got cold in my first trim I applied lot of vicks vaporub on my throat and also inhaled hot water. Its good to cure that congestion u feel in the throat.

If the cough is really bothering u better check with ur doc as cough at this time can result in getting back pains.
