Do you consider Ayurveda to be an effective and practical science of medicine? Would you opt for Ayurveda to treat yourself or your children? Do you know cases where Ayurveda was especially effective?

Is there like a certification or a directory of recommendations for Vaidayas? Where can I get hold of a copy? In regular medicine theres usually a long line of qualifications that doctors can have, whats the equivalent here?

a vaidya (ayurvedic doctor) has to have completed a course of study in ayurvedic medicine and attained the BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and surgery) degree

You could go by personal recommendation. Dunno about certifications. One can definitely do post graduation in unani medicine with ayurveda as specialisation though.

Hi. An interesting article. Wandered into the forums and found a debate raging. Everyone seems to be a born critic. Let me just say that Ayurveda and Homeopathy are two fields that are really getting popular especially when traditional regular medicine what some people call allopathy tends to have far reaching side effects. Don' t hesitate to try it out. What have you got to lose?

I truly agree sometime for certain ailments popular cures don´ t help certain people. My mum was suffering for a long time till she experimented with Ayurveda. Though that was long time ago, Ive known relatives as well but generally notice that most people who start on Allopathy and switch dont completely switch over, though its only an observation

I agree when all else fails why not turn to Ayurveda. One should have an open mind when seeking a cure. However one shouldn´ t keep hopping from one medicine to another. First regular physicians and then Ayurveda and then to Homeopathy. Especially shouldnt mix and match

Can Ayurveda make me happy? Is there any cure for persistent depression in Ayurveda? So far I have not heard of any mental ailments cured by Ayurveda.

Hi sad soul, the prrof of the pudding is in the eating. Try out Ayurveda, but take care to consult a practicing vaidya, and follow his advice completely. Who knows, the results may surprise you?

In that case the cure will not be satisfactory. This is how our ancient schools of medicine gain a bad reputation. People follow it only half-way and then complain of poor results.

ahalya has hit the nail on the head! you can take ayurveda without turning vegetarian, but the prescribed diet will make it far more effective.

Ayurveda does prescribe a vegetarian diet. There are a number of reasons for this. Primarily, it is because there are three gunas - saatvic, rajasik and tamasik. the most desirable quality is that of saatvic, peace and purity. a vegetarian diet is a must for this. because what you eat influences your mind and soul as well.

Ayurveda only works effective for some people and for somethings. Like any other medicine the potency of the cure varies. Ayurveda is not about a quick fix unlike regular medicine, but the benefit is that usually there isn' t too many side effects

Yes, Ayurveda does improve one´ s immunity. Why just Ayurveda, lot of research studies have linked mental and physical state. If you are calm and happy mentally, rarely will you fall sick. This is because your aura grows stronger. Do try it.

That´ s not the way you look at it. Ayurveda is not just about curing one disease. As I mentioned before in another comment, it is a lifestyle. You imbibe purity and holistic living in all spheres, including your thinking. If you truly practise Ayurveda, your problems will not occur. Other schools of medicine can never deliver that. But I agree that if you regard it just as a cure, the potency may not be satisfactory.

Actually Ayurveda helps only when your problem has been diagnosed properly by a \" vaidya\" (Ayurvedic doc)the right medicine has been prescribed...but still it is better...has less side effects.
