Why Talking to Kids about Sex is a Must

Talking to kids about sex is important as they should not learn such things from media or any other inappropriate sources. Let us take a look at the ill effects which kids may face if parents do not impart sex education to kids.

During adolescence kids undergo a lot of physical as well as emotional changes which sometimes interfere with their daily lives. They become so disturbed with their curiosity that it becomes a serious issue for their parents to think about counselling for their kids. Sex and relationships are not easy things to discuss with your kids but there are stages when you need to sit with your kids and explain to your kids that sex and relationships are a part of life and they are natural.

If you do not impart Sex Education to your kids you may face with the following consequences.

Kids Can Be Easily Trapped

Kids who do not have proper knowledge about sex and relationships can be easily trapped. So try to give your kids as much information you think feasible at that point of time to your kids so that at least they can save themselves. This is very important if you have a girl child. Nowadays, even small girls are raped and physically abused. So to save your little princess from such a physical abuse and mental trauma it is absolutely very important to talk to her about sex.

Frustration in Kids

Sometimes it happens that kids face physical abuse from their own family members. In such a case they become traumatised and frustrated and they cannot come up to their parents to share all these. Such cases can be avoided if parents teach their kids about the private parts of their bodies and that no one is allowed to touch their private parts. Tell your kids that whenever they find anyone touching them in a strange and uncomfortable manner they should always come up and tell their parents about the incident.

Save Your Kids from Myths

In order to save your kids from different myths about sex and sexuality you need to provide your kids with the proper information about sex so that they abstain themselves from doing anything that is not appropriate at a particular age. Myths like, “Pregnancy cannot happen if you are using contraceptives”, or “you cannot get pregnant when you are having your periods”, should be explained to your kids clearly.  Your kids need to know that these are total myths and are not 100 percent full proof.

Save Your Kids from STD’s

During adolescence kids can commit wrong unknowingly and due to this they have to suffer for the rest of their lives. Until your kids have proper information about the risks of these sexually transmitted diseases or STD’s they will try to find out the answers of their curiosities and may end up taking a toll on their own lives.

Face Embarrassment

Sometimes out of curiosity, kids may ask tricky questions about sex to their parents in front of everyone which can be very embarrassing. Because of their ignorance kids do not understand what they are talking about and that the questions that they are asking are personal.  So to avoid such embarrassments you need to let your kids know about these personal things of life.

Kids Remain Misinformed

Before your kids know about sex and sexuality from media, movies and television it is important that you take the initiative to talk about sex to your kids. This is important because the information that they are getting from the media are sometimes violent, shameful and judgemental, for example when they are watching crime shows and porn secretly. So if you do not give your kids proper examples of healthy sex they will remain misinformed.

So it is very important that you impart proper education about sex to your kids. Even if it seems embarrassing to talk about sex to your kids you have to do this to keep your kids safe. You may take the help of different books and internet if you cannot talk straight about these personal issues to your kids.

If parents do not talk to kids about such topics, they will surely seek information from outsiders. Therefore, parents must provide right education on such topics to kids.
