Mistakes Parents Make While Trying to Raise a 'Super Kid'

All parents want to make their kids into super kids and in this attempt they make a lot of parenting mistakes. Let us take a look at the mistakes which parents make while trying to raise a “Super Kid”.

A super kid is born intelligent. Proper nurturing of a super kid can make him eminent personalities to take pride of. But for this, extreme cautiousness is expected from the parents in every move that they make and in every decision that they take regarding their kids. But parents often make some mistakes during the upbringing of the child unknowingly that prove to be very fatal for the child’s future. Some of the common mistakes are discussed below.

Over Expectations

It is common for every parent to expect to see their children on the top in every fields of life whatsoever so that they can take pride of their children to others. But sometimes over expectations may lead to disappointment and frustration that proves to be very harmful for the child’s future. Kids feel frustrated if at some of time they fail to meet the expectations of their parents. This leads in taking up wrong decisions on the part of kids sometimes at the cost of their own lives.

Showing of your child’s talent to others is good. But exaggerating your child’s talent will result in developing a superiority complex in your child. Once she knows she is the best, there are chances that she will stop trying as she knows that whatever she does becomes the best. This pride is not good at all for children. He will start insulting other kids who are not as much talented as she is. This will develop enmity among her friends.

Too Much Praising

No one can deny the facts that super kids are praiseworthy. But too much praising will lead to the loss of interest in kids. Praise her once in a while to urge her interest when she does something extraordinarily praiseworthy. This will make her realise that her efforts are appreciated and will urge her to do better in life so that she can earn accolades from everyone. Everyone loves to be praised and so are the kids, but parents should know where to draw the line. Stop before it goes out of your control.

Pamper Your Kids with Expensive Gifts

Never pamper your kids with expensive gifts just because they have done something good. Gifting your kids with expensive gifts will increase their expectations to get more and more expensive items which they do not need at all at this particular point of time. This makes kids more stubborn if they do not get similar gifts the next time they do something good, they will even stop trying to do better if you cannot afford such expensive gifts the next time around. So when you know that your child is talented, keep it to yourself, you do not need to blow your own trumpet. When she gets praises from outsiders then it will be a grand success for you. Take pride then when others praise your child.

Just because yours is a super kid does not mean you have to engage in any stupid and meaningless competition with others. Competition does not always prove who the best is. In fact it brings out enmity among fellow beings. This creates frustration among kids that is not good for them at all. Unhealthy competitions lead to mental stress and as a result even super talented kids start losing focus and concentration. So never let yourself get involved in unnecessary competition to prove your child’s worth. If she has talent in herself, she will shine like a star on her own. She will not need any one else’s light to shine brilliantly.

So, super kids need proper nurture from the parents, who have to be very cautious while dealing with their children. Every decision regarding the children should be taken with utmost care for the proper upbringing of the children who are brilliantly talented.

Is it possible for every kid to be a “Super Kid”? Which mistakes should parents avoid while raising a super kid? What care should be taken by parent while raising a gifted child? Discuss here.
