Diet for Preventing Haemorrhoids during Pregnancy

Haemorrhoids are the blood vessels formed around anus that get swollen. During pregnancy women experience this due to hormonal changes and slow digestion process leading to constipation which put more pressure on the veins by the uterus and weight of body. Usually, for some it becomes better after the delivery.
Constipation is a common complaint many women have during pregnancy and they may ask whoever they meet about any remedy to cure it. Due to the increased pressure on the rectum due to constipation, veins get enlarged causing haemorrhoids.

Dealing with Haemorrhoids during Pregnancy

The best way to deal with haemorrhoid and constipation can be by preventing them before they put you in trouble. Try to eat diet that is rich in fibre, fresh fruits, and vegetables and most importantly drink lot of water to prevent haemorrhoids during pregnancy.
Avoid standing or sitting for long hours, if you are having symptoms of haemorrhoids because it may put more pressure on your rectum veins. The main cause of haemorrhoids is intake of less amount of fibre, not including lot of fluids and no physical activity during pregnancy. If you give more importance to these things from early days of pregnancy as per your doctor’s guidance, you can prevent haemorrhoids.

Diet to Avoid Haemorrhoids during Pregnancy

Here is how you should take care of your diet to prevent haemorrhoids and constipation during pregnancy. However, you should also discuss about the below mentioned diet tips with your doctor as well to prevent any kind of complication.

1. Water

Intake of adequate amount of water is very necessary for a pregnant woman to prevent health issues during pregnancy. Less fluid in body leads to constipation which creates haemorrhoids. Water is an element that can treat constipation naturally. You must drink recommended amount of water by your doctor daily, it will also help in improving your metabolism during pregnancy.

2. Whole Grains Food Items

Eat lot of whole grain food items to improve your digestion system. Whole grains are rich in fibre. While pregnant you must eat foods that are rich in fibre. They will help in speeding up your digestion than earlier. Therefore, it will help you in preventing constipation and haemorrhoids during in pregnancy. The healthy whole grain food items are brown rice, oat meals, whole grain bread and any meal that is made of whole grains.

3. Fresh Fruits

Fruits are also rich in fibre due to which they help in preventing haemorrhoids. Not only the fibre content but also vitamins, nutrients and minerals present in them help to improve the functioning of digestive system.
The fruits which can help to prevent haemorrhoids during pregnancy are apples, blueberries, strawberries and grapes. Some of the other fruits which cannot be eaten with their skin are oranges, banana, and grapefruit. However, fruits like grapes should not be consumed in excess as excessive consumption of such fruits can be harmful for pregnancy. To be on safer side you must consult your doctor before including any kind of fruit in your diet during pregnancy.

4. Leafy Vegetable

Leafy vegetables are high anti-oxidants and contain nutrients that are great for digestive system. You may have heard and read everywhere that spinach is the best vegetable that acts highly in cleansing and regenerating intestinal tract. One of the other content is magnesium which is necessary for proper bowel movement. Another important leafy vegetables are cabbage, broccoli etc. However, make sure that you talk to your doctor before including any kind of vegetables in your pregnancy diet.

5. Other Vegetables

Other important vegetables that can help in preventing haemorrhoids are tomatoes, asparagus, cauliflower, cucumber, turnips, squash, celery and onions. Some of the beans also contain right amount of fibre like kidney beans, lima beans, black eyed peas, navy beans, black beans and legumes. But it is extremely important to talk to your doctor before you include anything in your pregnancy diet.
Whether you are suffering from haemorrhoids or not, you must include healthy food items as per your doctor’s advice in your diet to prevent any kind of complication during pregnancy.
