How to Prevent Stretch Marks

Is it possible to prevent pregnancy stretch marks? Let us have a look at some effective ways through which you can prevent them.

Stretch marks can be defined as scars that define the passage to
motherhood. They are inevitable, but can be successfully dealt with and even prevented through timely intervention. It requires patience and discipline to regularly follow some simple habits, so that you are relieved of the huge challenge of wanting to see them disappear.

This is something that we must know before we discuss on how to prevent them. You have been carrying and nurturing a life inside your body. As a part of post delivery recovery you need to think about how to fight those unsightly scars away. They are mostly visible in the breasts, abdomen, thighs and buttocks.

Prevention Starts with Proper Nutrition

This is the first and the predominant way to prevent post delivery stretch marks. A healthy diet that is well balanced with all the necessary requirements of your body along with the life that you are nurturing goes a long way in ensuring that you do not develop those scars. The nutrition that we take in through our daily diet takes care and reacts to ensure the well-being of our entire system and that includes the skin. The skin also needs adequate nourishment. It requires vitamins, proteins and good fats to retain its elasticity and vitality.

Minerals and Vitamins in Diet

To prevent those post delivery stretch marks see that your diet includes a good amount of vitamins A, C and E. You should also go in for supplements as suggested by your doctor. All the composite vitamins and minerals that fight the appearance of stretch marks are fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, green leafy veggies, almonds and other nuts, legumes, beans, fish, fish liver oils, poultry and milk. They act by ensuring the good health of the skin and looking after the necessary levels of collagen production.

Water is hailed as the elixir of life not for no reason. Apart from ensuring a multitude of other benefits, water keeps the skin supple, thereby ensuring that the elasticity of the skin is not affected to that dangerous level. This in turn ensures that the collagen production goes on in its natural fashion, whereby the stretch marks get effectively prevented. So you must be drinking a minimum of 8oz glasses of water regularly. You can also go in for a combination of water and fruit juices. Especially, orange, lemon, watermelon, carrot, beetroot and spinach juices, in fact those that have citric acid, vitamins and minerals for the skin.

Massaging your body especially the parts that are prone to post delivery stretch marks at regular intervals can prevent the appearance of the same. Seek the services of a trained masseur. There are certain external elements in the form of oils when applied on the skin gets absorbed and these can effectively prevent stretch marks. Given below is such a combination:

  • 1 teaspoon of apricot kernel oil
  • 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil
  • 2 teaspoon of grated beeswax
  • 1 tablespoon of wheat germ oil
  • 1/2 cup of cocoa butter
The skin is a fairly elastic organ. It has accommodated your baby within and now it has thinned after delivery leaving behind the stretch marks. It occurs when the middle layer of the skin that is the dermis gets stretched to its maximum limit that it breaks down through the interruption of the elasticity material, collagen production. Post delivery stretch marks are sometimes red implying that there has been microscopic bleeding due to tissue inflammation. As they go away you see a faded white silvery colour, a few shades lighter than your regular skin-tone.
