Coping With Stretch Marks Post Delivery

Coping With Stretch Marks Post Delivery

Some simple remedies can prove effective to cope with stretch marks post delivery. Read on to find tips for coping with pregnancy stretch marks.

Stretch marks in the form of white or red coloured lines are natural during pregnancy and post delivery period. So when you are looking to get back into your pre-pregnancy shape and look, you would obviously want to do away with the stretch marks as well. But many new mothers would vouch for the fact that this is indeed a very tough challenge. It takes a great deal of time and patience to even find these marks fade. But, eventually they and you can succeed only through a persistent effort and discipline. Since they are inevitable you need to be aware of mechanisms which will help you cope with them.

Massage is the Best Policy

Nothing can be more effective that a regular massage to cope with these marks. You need to realise that stretch marks occur when the skin gets stretched beyond the limits of its normal elasticity. And the most vulnerable areas are the arms, breasts, stomach or the whole of your abdomen region, thighs and hips. These are the areas that have borne the effects and impacts of your pregnancy and now, lactation.

Therefore, in order to cope with the marks, it is important that you massage these areas regularly with a combination of oils and creams. The objective is to help the skin regain its elasticity through the stimulation of the inducing element, collagen production. Collagen is the natural protein that causes the formation of new tissues. So, gentle rubbing of the areas where stretch marks have appeared, will help them fade away gradually.

Massage Elements

Following ingredients can be used for massaging the stretch marks.

  • Aloe Vera gel
  • Cocoa butter
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Jojoba extracts
  • Wheat germ oil
  • Shea butter
  • Vitamin E oil

Seek the advice of your health care provider and dermatologist on how you should be mixing the combination. There is no fixed rule to mix the ingredients, but depending on your basic skin type, some alterations might be suggested in order to make the effects quicker.

Avoid Dehydration

While coping with stretch marks it is important that you ensure that at no point of time, your system is dehydrated. This can have a lot of negative impacts, like affect your digestion, bowel movements, the quantity of breastmilk supply; induce fatigue and irritability and so on. Not to forget reduce the moisture supply to the skin and making it further dry. Dryness robs the skin of its natural oils that make it elastic from within. So dehydration actually hinders your chances of coping effectively with stretch marks. Always ensure that your skin is smooth and supple from within, so that the collagen production is at the optimum level. This can be achieved through drinking plenty of water and fruit and vegetable juices throughout the day.

Warm Water Bath

During post delivery period when you want to fight those stretch marks, it is advised that you always take your bath in warm or lukewarm water. It helps in opening up the pores of the skin thus allowing it to breathe. It also helps in improving the blood circulation of the body and this reflects in the texture and smoothness of the skin. A proper circulation also aids in the collagen protein formation.

Apply Castor Oil

Apart from the other oils that you are using to cope with the stretch marks, it is recommended that you also opt for a regular application of castor oil around the affected areas. The mechanism is to apply quite a thick layer of castor oil on your arms, abdomen, thighs, buttocks and other affected areas and cover these areas with a plastic sheet. Now apply a mild heat compression using a heating pad or a plastic bottle with warm water for around 25-45 minutes according to your comfort level. This will allow the castor oil to seep deep into the skin and enhance the elasticity by boosting the collagen levels.

Finally, opt for the stretch marks creams available in the market according to the suggestions of your physician. They contain all the above-mentioned ingredients along with other patented peptides. If you are consistent with the application of the oils and creams, throughout your pregnancy and post delivery, you will find it is a lot easier to cope with these stretch marks.
