Golden rules I follow when driving with my child

Rate this Entry
Since I work from home and we reside in the middle of the city (with shops all around), I seldom step out of the neighborhood. Exceptions were weekends with my hubby. However, things changed when my little one started growing up. So, I had to get his school supplies. There were times I had to drop him for some activity class. And then there was also the kids’ birthday celebration.
I can’t forget the first time, when I had to take him for some important errand. It was really tedious for me. I had made sure that Sid ate well at home before leaving. However, he got hungry and upset as I was returning from the mall. Since, I had not carried any toys; he got bored and was way irritable. The bumps on the road made him go wailing. Huh! And I thought I was a smart mum.

In accordance with my experiences and those shared with my friends, I would love to share some golden rule, while driving the car with the little angel:-

Safety

This is of prime importance. I always make sure that my kid is buckled up in his seat when I am driving. In fact, I make sure that I am buckled up too. Initially, it was tedious, but slowly I have made it a point that he sits in the back seat while I am driving. It makes me keep a tab on his activity, as I peep in the rear mirror. It at the same time avoids any dangerous situation.

Munches

These I love to stack in a lot. So, there are carrots (thin strips cut length wise), his favorite chocolate and popcorns. I avoid taking nuts when I am driving, because it might get stuck in his throat. And again, I try my best to avoid liquid foods. However, if your child is very small, keep the liquid food in an airtight container, to avoid it from sweltering out.

Toys

My son loves his cars. So, with them on board, I am sorted. There must be that one toy which your kid likes. Make sure to take in whenever you are out. It will keep them happily busy and you happily enjoy. However, it is always recommended to not take very small or very bulky toys.

Water

With all the munches you cannot forget water. Make sure that you have plenty of water with you. In fact, there should be the drinking water and one separate bottle in your car (for emergency purpose). You should have a bottle of drinking water for yourself as well.

Wipes

This is another very important thing. Whether you will be back in an hour or 30 minutes, some handy pocket wipes are never too heavy to carry. Make sure you carry the wipes for your little one. If the child is really small and uses diapers, arrange for it as well.

One Extra Pair of Clothes

This may sound a bit too much. But till your child is a toddler, you really have no idea when you might need it. You are on a four wheeler, how much space does a pair of cloth need? So stock them in so that you can use them whenever needed.
Other than the entire above, make certain that he or she has used washroom before sitting in the car. Also, do not stuff up the child with food just before going out. It is because he or she might throw up.

So, good luck ladies with that wheel and the feel of a smart mumma!
