Common Causes of Eczema in Children

Infants and children have tender skin so their skin gets irritated easily. One major factor of skin irritation in children is the products they are using. These products may cause allergy in the skin of these children and inflammation, red patches, itching of skin or some other symptoms may be shown. It is important that parents choose clothes, skin care products and other accessories of their children with utmost care. Children should be given light and loose clothes made with cotton. Eczema can also be caused due to some food. Some children may be allergic to particular types of foods such as milk, dairy products, sea food, wheat or soy. If known, it is better to avoid these food items.

Home Remedies for Eczema in Children

Here are some simple home remedies that can help children to cope with eczema.

Giving Bath

Children should be given bath daily if needed twice in a day so that their skin is always clean. A mild soap or cleanser should be used to clean the entire body or the eczema infected part so that it remains clean.

Warm Bath is also very helpful in soothing the skin of the children who have symptoms of eczema. To keep the skin moisturized, petroleum jelly can be used as it keeps the skin moist and gives a soothing effect.

Cold Compression

Cold compression in the infected area gives relief to the child. A soft wash cloth should be dipped in ice cold water and squeezed so that excess water comes out. Then it can be applied to the infected area.

Keeping the Skin Moist

Drinking required amount of water is mandatory to keep the body hydrated. Children should drink enough amount of water so that their skin remains hydrated and it is less prone to any kind of infection. Application of oil such as coconut oil and olive oil on skin helps in keeping the skin moist and soft. Application of oil on the entire body of the child will make the eczema patches moist and would also help in preventing the rashes from spreading into other parts of the body.

Eating Habit for Eczema Prevention

Fresh fruits and vegetables must be included in the diet chart of children as these contain lots of vitamins and minerals which keep the skin healthy and glowing and at the same time improves the immune system of a child. Foods such as tomatoes, corn, green leafy vegetables, almonds, mangoes etc are rich in Vitamin E so these help in keeping the body healthy. Consumption of yoghurt will also reduce the chances of skin problems in children.
