Due Date Club June 2008:Working moms - maternity leave
2008-02-26

Hi All wokring moms in this discussion board,

As the due date is coming nearer, I am sure all of us working females must be thinking of taking maternity leave.
Since most of the companies have 12 weeks mat leave policy, what do you think is the best way of dividing this duration between pre and post delivery times.
Also, do you think it is wise to leave 3 month old baby to attend to office (especially when one doesn' t hv parents or in-laws around :-)).
Is there anybody who is planning to quit and take a break too?
Thoughts?

Happy preggy,
Rupali

Hi Ruplai,
All the best for your forth coming baby. I have two kids with 1 and half years age difference. I tuk a break of 3 years from work to be with my kids as my parents or in laws are not with me.
It was worth..every sec of it.. now i have rejoined and is enjoying my work and family.
if you can take a break..nothing like that for your baby

Hi Rupali,

Me workin too…. My off policy allows 3 months of maternity leave…. Ideally its too less a time….. u really wanna b wit ur baby for atleast about 6 months before resuming work specially for feeding dats wer ur baby needs u d most....

I would be movin to my mums place in my 7th month which is a lil far from my workplace.... So I have spoken to my boss for an arrangement wer I can work from home till my last month arnd mid actually, its worth a try…… awaiting his revert..... Pray its positive....

In dat case I wud divide my 3 months as follows : 15 days pre delivery 2 ½ months post delivery.

My boss is ok with an additional month or 2 of extra leave post delivery... so I m only hopin he stands by his words.... :)

Jus hopin everything works out fine....

Luv,
Saba

Hi Saba,

thanks for your response...i will also ask for WFH option (which is anyway a formal mode of working in my company)...and then go for additional 3 months. If it works out well, then good...else i will quit and be with my baby...:-)

And yes, i agree 3 months is too less...i think this rule needs amendment...:-)
