Hi one of my friends recently told me that perhaps my 2.5 year old son was not speaking clearly was perhaps becasue he was not hearing well. And I was really concerned becaseu there is some history of poor hearing in my family, whihc ofcourse happened later in life. Could my son be not speaking clearly becasue he is not hearing clearly?

Hi ,

I would suggest that in case you have any doubt -then u must go for the test.BERA is the most advanced test and gives a very clear picture.Yes,they sedate the child for that and the child is juct in deeep sleep for 2 hrs and wakes up on his own.
There are many factors involved and it is better to meet some audiologist rather that ur child specialist.

All the Best !!

Hi to all,
My son 31 months old was not talking much. To me it seemed that he was hearing also properly and the ped. too was not worried about his hearing. To my satisfaction I got his 'hearing test' done and it came out that he can hear but not CLEARLY. Also he cannot hear environmental sounds . He has water in the middle ear both sides. The doctor said that this could be the reason for his speech delay. We will get him operated soon and as the fluid will come out he will start hearing CLEARLY.I hope soon he starts speaking too. Wish us LUCK !!!!!

Hi...

One of my friend had same problem like you. His son was not talking upto age of 2.5....but he was understanding everything his parents says to him. So...it is not necessary that it is hearing problem. After he had joined Playgroup he started talking soon. Actually he was not getting touch of lang. much as he was living only with his mom whole day who is not talkative person. So...u have to see that how many words he listens everything from world arround him.

best luck

Sejal

Speecha dn hearing are quite inter-related. And your firnd is right. I suggest that you go and visit a speech pathologist who will be able to do a hearing test on your child and put your mind to rest.

Hearing
Speech problems are often related to hearing problems, i.e. if the child has poor hearing, it is unlikely that he will be able to speak clearly because speech are interlinked. Discuss your child’s hearing problems and also find out if genetics plays a role. ... - Editor [View Message]
