Weekend Trips

Do you plan activities for the weekends? Or do you let the days just drift past? Remember, time flies by, so explore as much of your beautiful country as you can.

A surprising number of people who really take the time out to travel and see the world, are retired people, or people on the brink of retirement. Naturally this often happens because they then have more time to explore and do the things they never did when they were younger and were busy earning a living.
However, you don't need to wait until you retire to travel. All you need is a desire to see and experience new places and things, and a plan.
Although you may often feel that a holiday should be spontaneous, it makes far more sense to plan ahead, especially if you are traveling with children.
Try and plan something at least one weekend in a month. It may not always be possible to go out of town, but often spending the weekend at a nearby resort on the outskirts of your town makes for great relaxation.
There are numerous places worth a visit around where you live. If you live in Bombay, places like Lonavala, Khandala, Matheran and Mahabaleshwar are not very far away. Yet, we dream of visiting far away exotic locations before we try and discover natures wonders next door.
Every summer, Lalitha, who lived in Cochin, would visit Bangalore, her family's native city, with her children. They would spend a couple of months in Bangalore and return home. The result? Years later when her children started work, they met many people from different backgrounds and different cities and countries, all of who had traveled extensively and had had a well-rounded exposure. So Lalitha's children could never join in conversations about holidays in various exciting destinations, or weekend trips to fun places. Her children were the least traveled of their colleagues, and they developed a strong desire to see more of the world - and of the country. They started going for weekend trips to nearby destinations with friends, and they would see numerous families with children holidaying there, and always wondered why they never traveled much with their parents.
Aim to see as much of your beautiful country as you can. Although children like nothing more than a holiday abroad, most people do not plan to go abroad more than once a year, or once in a few years. However, weekend trips can be made on a very low budget, and far more often.
In addition, no one knows what the future holds. You may spend lakhs of rupees on a trip to America, and then get transferred there! So instead, try and make the most of where you live at present. What state do you live in? Have you seen all the places worth visiting in that state?
There are millions of places to see, and most of us will not be able to see them all. However, we could see more places with the same amount of money if we try not to repeat the same destination more than once. Many parents find a holiday resort they like, and tend to go back again and again. If your purpose is to expose your child to new destinations, and teach them a little about the history and culture of every place they visit, you should consider making it a rule to avoid visiting the same place again and again, no matter how much you liked it - because by doing so you may miss out on the opportunity of seeing something new, that you like even more.
