Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does aerobics and a diet of fruit and vegetables impede pregnancy in somebody aged 34-35 whose periods are otherwise regular and there are no health problems whatsoever?
Jasmine (Mumbai, India)

A: Excessive exercise and inadequate diet can interfere with conception by affecting the menstrual rhythm. However exercise in moderation in the presence of regular normal cycles should not interfere with conception. Fruits and vegetables alone do not constitute a balanced diet. A balanced diet is essential for overall well being, which must be achieved before attempting conception.

Q: Could you please tell me the difference between a clinical thermometer and a basal thermometer? How is the Basal temperature taken? We are trying to conceive since the last 2 years and the doctors have said there is no problem. I got myomectamy done (removal of fibroid) last month. We are very eager to have a child. Kindly help. What type of food should we consume? What should we do?
Vishesh (New York, U.S.A.)

A: Both are the same, you have to take the temperature in the morning as soon as your wife gets out of bed on a clinical thermometer. This is called basal temperature. No food restrictions now, but please avoid papayas.

Q: Are there any tips you can give us to increase the chance of having a boy? Also kindly suggest a diet which could increase the probability of getting a baby boy.
Jai (Jabalpur, India)

A: Try having sex after ovulation occurs, and also try to include sugar in your diet. Avoid acidic and spicy foods.
