Effects of Cell Phone Radiations on Kids

Mobile phone or cell phone is one of the accessories which can keep kids as well as babies entertained. However, allowing your babies and kids to play with your cell phone can be harmful. Read more about the harmful effects of mobile phone or cell phone on your baby.

Modern technology has its share of positives but the negatives sometimes outweigh the benefits and we are left wondering whether it is worth it. Cell phones, for example, are an indispensable part of our lives but they emit a certain type of radiation at all times. Known as electromagnetic radiation, it is extremely harmful for kids since it slowly penetrates into the brain of children and affects the regular functioning. The incoming radiation breaks down the DNA strands, causing havoc with cell functioning and weakens the protective barrier of the brain. Free radicals are also released in the process which affects brain tissue.

Vulnerability in Children

Studies show that children are much more prone to cell phone radiation damage than adults. Their skulls are smaller and thinner, as a result of which their brain cell development happens to be a continuous process. The brain of children contains more fluid in comparison to an adult brain cell and unfortunately, they have the capacity to absorb ten times more radiation than adults.

Cause for Problems

Numerous studies have been conducted which suggest a connection between extensive cell phone usage and children’s behavioural problems. In 2008, Hozefa Divan of Denmark researched and found that out of 13,000 children, those whose mothers had used cell phones extensively during the term of their pregnancy had a higher chance of experiencing behavioural issues, such as uncontrollable emotions and hyperactivity.

Symptoms to Watch Out For

The most common symptoms of cell phone radiation in children’s behaviour include:
  • Sleep disorders

  • Digestive disorders

  • Headaches

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Asthma

  • Allergies

Role of The Government

In France, a number of schools have put an end to wireless technology in school settings along with various public places. The French Government prohibits the sale of cell phones to children under the age of 12. Moreover, the governments of different countries like Switzerland, India, Finland, Belgium, Germany, and Israel are actively encouraging limited use of cell phones among kids. In the United Kingdom, Chief Medical Officers advise both youth and children under the age of 16 to use cell phones sparingly during urgent issues.

Safety Precautions

In the modern era, there is no denying the overuse of technology and electronic devices but we can follow the stipulated safety measures to ensure the safety of children. It is our duty to shield children from harmful radiation being emitted by cell phones. Not only children, even pregnant women are at risk from cell phone radiation.

There are a few vital measures that may be taken during cell phone usage to prevent any damage to kids. In the first case, it should always be kept in mind that level of radiation depends on your distance from the cell phone. Children should be taught never to hold a cell phone directly to their heads. Instead, make the right decision by letting them speak through speakerphone or a headset. In the case of pregnant women, it is a must for them to keep the cell phones far away from their abdomen since it can otherwise affect the baby.

Children must never be allowed to play or use a cell phone without a good reason. It is best if the wireless router at home is turned off every night in order to limit the amount of exposure to radiation. Believe it or not, one of the best ways to combat cell phone radiation in kids is to include lots of green vegetables in their diet and make sure that they get a good night’s sleep. The child’s room needs to be kept dark and silent so that the natural repair system of the DNA can kick in and reverse the problems caused by cell phone radiation.

It is a good article. I avoid giving cell phone to my 10 month old baby but my in-laws let him play with the mobile phone to keep him engaged...I am so concerned what to do.
