There are couple of other procedures also which are carried out during birth and delivery which include breaking the water artificially as well as vacuum extraction and forceps delivery. However, lot of women undergo such procedures during birth and delivery so women should not get frightened of these procedures as all these procedures are normal procedures during childbirth and delivery.

Episiotomy is one of the procedures which is not required for all mothers during birth and delivery but doctors carry out this procedure for all mothers during birth and delivery in order to speed up the delivery procedure. Therefore, now in most of the hospital births episiotomy is unavoidable.

I agree with you mandira, Episiotomy is one of the common hospital procedures during birth and delivery. Although, it can be avoided doctors carry this process on all mothers in India. However, lot of mothers take measures in order to avoid episiotomy. However, episiotomy is not a big deal, all mothers go through it during childbirth and delivery.

Dear All,

I'm Dr. Meghna Bharath. I'm a strong proponent of Natural Birthing.

In the run-up to becoming a Mom myself, I prepared for Natural birth and delivered naturally. Recently I encouraged and supported my younger sister and close friends deliver naturally as well [through remote advice, since we were across a 10-hour timezone :)].
