Hi friends,

This is Akshay from Kerala. I’m new to the site & thought to post my problem.
I belong to a Brahmin community & am studying now in 9th standard. My parents have decided my thread ceremony this vacation for myself & my brother. It seems that we would have to tonsure our heads as a part of the function. Also we would have to get our ears pierced before that. It seems that all our relatives are invited for the same. When my friends came to know about the function they said even they would be present for the function for which I can’t say no to them. I just can’t imagine my plight of standing with shaved heads and ear rings in front of relatives, cousins & my friends. Friends please tell me what to do. I asked my parents not to shave my head but they would never agree for that. Are there such practices from olden days? Please help me. I really wish I could see some suggestions.

hey dont worry abt tht its a very happy moment to enjoy so be happy costume is towel like i think u will have only towel to tie round the waist and another to wear down the neck and in tonsure a small piece of hair will be left on u r head remember its a good activity and ear piercing also will be done just before tonsure ear piercing and tonsure will make u look beautiful if u want photos of me ask me

don´ t be shy or afraid. I was in ur shoes sometimes back. I can´ t even sleep thinking this. I used to shout at my parents for not having done this during my childhood. But he reality is different. I indeed enjoied the whole show. So b sportive. Ur bald look will really b beautiful which wudnt have thought off. I thouhgt I wud b horrid when I shave my head. But I looked so good in my bald head and I went for three more tonsured after that willingly. Ear piercing is nothign. It will b like a ant bite. U can remove the stud on the same day evening. So don´ t worry. I m intact elder than u and I faced it without issue. So u shud b sportive and shud go for it. U wait and watch. U will go for futur tonsures at ur wish frequently after this

Hi friends,

My days are being counted. On 5th day from now I would be tonsured & my ears would have holes on them. I’m very much upset about that & even loose sleep because of the same. I’m trying to gain courage reading the articles, but still feel tensed about that. Could someone post the experience you had during the whole procedure of thread ceremony and when your head was tonsured & got your ears pierced? How many days did the whole procedure remain? What was the costume which you had worn during the ceremony? My brother doesn’t face so many problems as he is younger & none of his friends is going to come here as most of them are out of station. Friends, please help me… Hope to see some posts regarding this aspect.

Nice to read your comments & happy to know that you still continue wearing your ear rings. Do you wear rings in both ears? I’m really ashamed of tonsuring & piercing ears. How did you feel when it was done to you? Where do you belong to? Please share your feelings with me.
