This is prem. I had my mottai at palani during the final year of my college. I want to share my experience with you all
I had a vow to lord muruga that if i get good placement at college, i will come to palani and offer my hair to him.
Finally i got my placement in a good concern
I couldnt beleive my ears. I am in such a happy state. I called up my parents and everyone i knew and i shared this good news.
I told that i had a vow that once i get the placement and once i get the offer letter, i will tonsure my head and i will bring my offer letter and come to palani murugan with bald head and keep my offer letter in his legs and get his blessings. So we were all waiting for my offer letter to come. Then i asked my mom to make some sweets and i distributed in the college.
that next thursday, i got a call from the placement cell. They gave me my offer letter and i received it with great happiness. Then i informed this to everyone.
That friday, i went to home. i showed my offer letter to everyone in the family and all were very happy.
Then during the lunch on the next day, my mother asked me, when will i be ready for the tonsure and vow fulfilment. I told her that i am ready at any time and i am ready even tomorrow and asked if she is free to take me to palani. She told that she is fine for tomorrow. She asked me to check with my dad. I went to my dad and asked him if he is free tomorrow. If so, i told him that we can go to palani and have my vow fulfilled. He told that he is free but again asked me if i am sure that i am ready to go as bald in front of friends. For me nothing else came to my eyes other than my vow. So we are all set. It was 27th of December and it was Margazhi month. My mother was not sure if i can tonsure my head in that month and we do not do any good thing during that month. Then we went to our family goodwill person and he is like a priest. We informed him about my placement and about my vow and checked with him if i can tonsure tomrorow.He told that this month is the best month for god. So our mind is set. We went to our aunt' s house and checked with her if she is also interested in coming to palani with us. She did. She is interested along with her son and daughter. So we are all set for Sunday morning(28th Dec) 6' o clock.
We got the bus and went to palani. I also took my camera with me so that i thought of getting some snaps during my mottai. Then we got down in palani busstand and my aunt knows the in and out of palani. She lead us to the tonsure area. We have to walk for some time and i asked her how long should we go. Everyone in my family were amazed to hear this from me and this showed how much terrific i am in fulfilling my vow.
Then we entered the place with the board \" Mudi Kanikai seluthumidam\" . I was with pant and shirt. Then i went to the counter and told that it is one mottai and he asked me for Rs.10. I gave him and got a token and half blade.
I started walking to find the free person to fulfil my vow. I finally figured a person who is free. He was sitting with a wooden board in his front. On seeing me, he greeted me and asked me to sit in the wooden board.
I sat in front of him happily and i gave him the token and also the half blade. I asked my brother to come into the tonsuring area and asked him to be ready so that he can take some snaps.
The barber asked me if i want to tonsure or haircut. I smiled and told \" Amange. Mottai than\" . Then he took cup of water and he poured correct amount of water and started massaging my head. He did not waste even a single drop of water but ensured my whole hair is wet and my full head is massaged. Then he took the razor(kathi) and he inserted the blade that i gave him. He is ready. I asked my brother to take a photo before he starts. So my brother took a photo. The barber decently waited and he was about to start once he took the photo.
He asked me to say \" Arokara Arokara Arrokara\" . I told that with lord muruga in my entire heart. Nothing else was there in my heart. I told to lord muruga, \" Thanks for your help in offering me a job. Pls accept my kanikai\" . Then he started the tonsure.
He started with his razor from the middle of the head and he proceeded to the front. I can feel the razor playing on my head. I was in such a happiness that i have not had in my entire lifetime. In a minute, my front is over. I asked my brother to take a snap. Then he started my back. He started from the middle to the back to my nap. In another 1-2 minutes, my entire head is done. Then he i asked my brother to take a photo again. then he put some water on my face and he wetted my beard and mustache. As i am just 22 yrs old, i had very little beard and mustache. So he smoothly shaved both. Then he asked me to lift my hand for the armpit. I was really happy to see that he is giving me a complete shave even in my armpits so that my vow is completely fulfilled. After completing the armpit, he told that i am having lot of dandruff. I need to frequently wash my hair it seems. \" Aaana innoru 2-3 maasathuku mootaingaruthunala, prachana illa sir ungaluku\" . Then he applied some more water on my head (bald) and he shaved my whole head again to ensure that the dandruff is out. I was really feeling the razor runnning on the head. Then he told that it is over. I was very happy and i thanked him. I kept my hand on my head and rubbed it. I was very happy to play with my bald head.He told \" Sir. Satharanama mottaiku Rs.20 vanguven. Ungalukupodugu vera irunthu...innoru round serachen...konjam paathu pottu kudunga sir. En vela suthama irukkum...Ungaluku mottaiadichathilirunthu ungalukae therinjurukum\" . I asked my father to give Rs.20 to that guy. Though i know that i will look horrible in my bald head, i had a intense satisfaction that i had fulfilled my vow.
