Due Date Club December 2005:Shatavari & breast feeding....

Hi Archie and all...
We celebrated our son's first month birthday on 30th of Dec. I was so tied up with our first daughter Suhani and newly born son Tanish that I couldn't even log on the computer to announce his arrival. Tanish and myself are doing well.
I had a question about Shatavari. My mom heard that Shatavari increases the flow of milk and so I am taking about 1 spoon of Shatavari powder with water. Does this powder have any side effects or will I start putting on weight? Please help me with it. Plus Tanish has lot of fine hair on his forhead, ears and back. My mom applies the paste of turmeric+besan+milk and removes it with oil. Is there any other way because after using this paste he gets red spots on his body?
I hope all the dec moms and the babies are doing well.
WIsh you and your family a very happy & prosperous new year.
Reshma.

Hi Siya,
I live in Parsippany, NJ. Thanks for the compliments. I am sure Saurav will soon get over his shyness and will start playing with his little sister.
Take Care,
Reshma.

Hi Siya, Smita & Bhava,
Thanks a lot for your input. My mom is using olive to massage the baby. My daughter Suahni, who is 2 yrs old, had no hair at all but my son since he was on time has lot of hair. I wanted to know what other ladies are doing about it.
Siya, I think Tanish and Tanisha rocks!!! hehehe...
I live in New Jersey. Where are you guys located? Are you all planning to go back to work?

Take Care,
Reshma.

Hi Reshma,
I live in New Jersey too. I saw ur baby website. The picture is really cute!!! Suhaani is really proud to be a big sis!! Tanish is adorable! My son's name is Saurav, he is 3 yrs old. What a coincedence again! But he is kind of shy to show affection to his sister. He will give her kisses and all only when he thinks that we are not watching him. Otherwise, she and his Scooby-Doo doll are the same to him except that she is more interactive! Olive oil is best for massage. Which part of NJ are u from? We are in South Jersey. Ok, Bye..take care...
Luv, Siya

Hi Reshma,
I had a baby girl and her name is Tanisha!!! How nice!! Ok, don't use any besan/atta etc as they tend to irritate baby's tender skin. Nowadays, these things have a lot of additives. Use Johnson's Baby Wash or Baby soap. If u r in India, u can try Mysore Sandal Baby Soap, it is really nice and has all the goodness of Sandalwood plus a nice fragrance. Use pure coconut oil to massage baby. Don't use Baby Oil. The baby hair will fall off gradually. After bath apply Baby Lotion. Ok, hope this helps... take care. Bye!
Luv, Siya

instead of besan you can use atta. and is she removing it with mustard oil. since babyies' skins are soft, many find mustard oil too harsh. try using a diifferent oil, olive, baby, almond, coconut etc. and turmeric is not necessary for removing hairs, it is used for fairness. so u can also try removing that to see if he is allergic to it.
take care

Hi! Congrats on ur son's birth!!
My daughter, Saachi will be a month old on 3rd..so looking forward to that!!
As for Shatavari..I don't know anything..but I eat Panjeeri which has what is called Kamarkas which is good for milk and recovery from childbirth..it is rich in nuts..I feel very hungry when i feed Saachi..so I eat a lot of that.
As for the hair...those are normal for newborns and are called lanugo..they go away within a couple of months...ur son is probably getting allergy to the beasn or haldi and all that rubbing!..my 2 cents would be to just give him a regular massage with baby oil and leave the hair alone..!!
Happy New Year to u too!!
Bhavna

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
