My baby is 5 months old and is allergic to lactose. She is on a soy milk diet now and the doctor has asked me to start on rice cereal. I want to know the difference between Nestum and cerelac? Please help. what other diet can be started at 5 months?

Hi Ramya,
It is good to keep food which is prepared at home only because all formula food is becoming unhealthy now a days.So parent be alert about the baby food products also.

Hey Josephine
Dont worry, first of all you can see the ingredients on the back of the package to clearly know the differences of both the formulas. Also if you want to know it more deeper you can consult a doctor and ask his advice so that your question can be answered.

Consult a pediatrician and hence you cant best find a solution.Your doctor will advise you the foods to be taken during allergic conditions of your baby.

Hi Josephine,

My daughter was also allergic to lactose so my paed asked me to start with nestum preparing it by adding boiled and cooled water.

She is now 14 month old and still likes to have nestum and does not like cerelac. The allergic from lactose will be over when she is around 10-11 month old.

at this mment you should start nestum for her

Nestum is rice cereal without milk, and Cerelac is rice cereal pre-mixed with milk. If she is lactose intolerant, then maybe Nestum is better. You can prepare it by adding Soy Milk and offering her.

Hi Josephine,

At 5 months of age i dont think you should start either of them. Nestum and cerelac can be started at 6 months of age. At this time you can give your child RAGI. It is good in calcium and provides lots of energy to kids. I am telling you all this with my personal experience because i also have a daughter of 1.5 yrs.
Nestum is made up of rice and cerelac is wheat. Or if you want to give rice to your kid, you can prepare idli at home and give that.
Best of luck.
