Q: My niece contracted anorexia last year. Her weight reduced by almost 17 kgs, and she had to be hospitalised after which her weight increased by some kgs. She is now almost regained that weight after constant efforts by her parents, but still her weight is almost 7 kgs less compared to her height. She is undergoing counselling, and close dietary supervision by the family. She was also shown to a NIMHANS specialist. However, she continues to be obsessed and determined not to gain any more weight, and if possible, to lose weight, which we have to try very hard to prevent. Murli (Gandhidam, India) |
A: Anorexia nervosa is a difficult problem to cure and is purely a psychological problem. Continue the advice given by NIMHANS. |
