Q: My daughter tends to jerk her hand and legs very often. Her eye and lip movements are normal, but she jerks quite a bit. Are these jerky movements normal?

Anupama (Mahrashtra, India)

A: Your child is essentially undergoing something which is called startle response. Generally this disappears by 6 months of age. Hearing control will come by the time your child is 6 months of age.
