Do Looks Matter - by Editor

How important is it to look good Do looks really matter to you Would you choose your partner based on whether or not they have an A+ in the looks department
The serial Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin seems to have taken the nation by storm. It's got all the ingredients of a good story and yet, we all know what's going to happen. And, we're waiting for it! The bespectacled secretary with braces who everybody makes fun of, the ugly duckling of the show, will turn into a swan, and her charming boss will fall in hopelessly in love with her.
But does he fall in love with her after she turns into a beautiful woman Or before Is it just her looks that will ultimately attract him, or her brains and nature That's what remains to be seen.
How important is beauty really A lot of us lay so much emphasis on outer beauty, on the colour of skin, the hair, features etc, while we don't appreciate the beauty within. True, it is great to look good. It raises your confidence level, and makes you feel better about yourself, but how good do you really need to look for this I know models who are incredibly insecure about their looks, though they have beauty most of us would die for.
Remember, no matter how good you look, there will always be someone better looking. But your nature, your characteristics, your quirks and your personality these, not your face, are what make you the special person you are. Good looks can only take you so far. A man may be incredibly handsome, but if he doesn't have good manners, and if he doesn't know how to make a woman feel special, he is not going to keep you very happy, and the same goes for women. All that really matters are the nature and personality of a person. Beauty will not last forever, but attitude
will, so what you lack in beauty, make up for in attitude, and you're going to do just fine.
Look your best
At times when a woman is in the presence of another really beautiful women, she tends to feel overwhelmed by her beauty and starts feeling insecure about her own looks. Your hands rush up to straighten your hair, you pat your clothes into place, and you wish you had taken more time in front of the mirror. So take time out every morning
to look as good as you possibly can, and then, stop thinking about it. Remember, there will always be someone better looking, so don't let another woman make you feel ugly.
Compliment others often
Compliment a friend, acquaintance or a colleague if she is looking especially nice, or if she is wearing something you like. Stopping yourself from passing a compliment only feeds your own insecurity.
Make a conscious effort to avoid envy
If a close friend is nicer looking than you are, you may tend to harbour resentment towards her, and in the process, distance her from certain aspects of your life. Prettier women are not necessarily happier women. Everyone has their highs and lows. Your friend may be prettier, but you may be in a very satisfying relationship or you may have more loving siblings. As I said before, beauty will fade. 30 years down the line none of this will matter. What will matter are the relationships you have formed in the present.
And finally
Dress well.
This is more important than having a pretty face. Wear clothes that suit you, that are trendy, and that fit you well. A great outfit will make you feel great about yourself. The way you dress also speaks a lot for your personality. If you are a sharp dresser, it doesn't matter whether or not you have the most beautiful face, you will get noticed anyhow. Exercise, so your body is in great shape. Wax regularly, and make sure you always look neat and clean. Don't forget the antiperspirant!

Comments: no, looks shudn't matter, but they do. the indian culture demands that a girl shud b beautiful and FAIR, whereas, a guy can b xtremely drk and ugly. i suppose its jus a fact of life

Comments: thats not necessary though sabz. if the girl herself is beautiful and doesnt want to marry an ugly man, it's entirely upto her. but like we said, looks dont matter. the problem is, in india, for many indian women, looks really do not matter, but for men they still do.

Comments: BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER. For some people physical beauty is important, while some look for the beauty of the heart. Even though the physical beauty is a gift of God, one can always make oneself more presentable by helping oneself with excercise, proper diet, proper upkeep of body, hair and face. But its an undeniable fact that physical beauty is a great attraction for the opposite sex and matters greatly in choosing one's life partner.

Comments: I feel that looks do not matter in the end. I also feel we as women need to love what God has given each of us, making the most out of what we have. I feel that men need to have realistic expectations of the woman they marry. They need to look at their mothers and how their mothers have changed over time...beauty fades, dumb is forever!

Comments: I feel that looks are all in the beholder. But unfortunately I have discovered that we live in a superficial world and that many times even though we do not like it. . . those who are beautiful are given more advantages then those who are simple. I myself have been told to be beautiful. But in my immediate family I was raised to believe that knowledge is gold. So now older I realized that besides knowledge beauty is a assest. I say this is because I have gained alot of weight and this has lead to my love one to look at me disappointedly. Many speak of my weight gained like it is a negative aspect in my life and I sit here wishing it would be different. So even if we like it or not we live in a world that if you are beautiful you are privilage.

Comments: looks do matter....i mean, take a look at Bollywood, all their actresses and actors display the indian norm of beauty. You rarely, if ever, see an actress who is dark, all are fair skinned. The males are always tall and built. Also, there is a negative image placed on prominent noses. overall, its an undeniable fact that looks do matter. Even if YOU say they don't, I'm sure you notice yourself glancing at the cute guy/girl that walks by...whyNULL because you care about their looks! I'm sure you can't notice their personality right off the bat.
