Language is the means of communication. The more they know better will be their communication skills. India is a divided into linguistic states. It is necessary be default to learn the regional language. Most of the Indians know not less than 3 languages. We taught our children more than 11 languages. Due to ISP - Art of parenting course we could give this opportunity to our children.

One should not distinguish between region, state, nation, etc. The more languages known (whether Indian or International) is an intangible asset and shall definately help in the development and progress of the individual.

No-a-days no body speak regional or national language. Importance is given to only those people who know to speak English fluently. That is why most of the parents today speak with their children in English language right from their birth.

I agree with Kavita. It is very very important for children to learn to learn not only their regional language but also their national language and mother tongue. Otherwise it will be very difficult for children to socialise in the society.

Of course it is important for children to know and learn their regional language. It will be a big shame for parents if their child does not know regional language. If child does not know the regional language, how will he communicate with others in the region in which he or she is living?
