Parents can control the habit of telling lies in children by teaching them through examples. The biggest example in front of kids is parents themselves. So first stop telling lies in front of your child if you expect them to be truthful to you. This process should be started from the beginning itself as if you start this process of teaching children to be truthful late it may not be as effective.

I agree with Padmaja. All children lie at some point of time or the other. Even when we were kids we used to tell lies to our parents out of the fear that they will punish us. This case is same with our children. The solution to this would be to encourage them to express themselves and be as open as possible.

Comment:
All children lie at some point of time because they are scared that their parents may shout at them. So the best thing to prevent your child from telling lies is to be good friends with them. Do not scare them with punishments. Teach them through stories that telling lies is wrong and the benefits of being truthful.
