![]() Views on Poll When should parents introduce BOOKS to their children? ![]() Name: skye pathare Country: india Comment: ithink you should introduce books to children at the age of 8-9 months.the earlier you do this, the more experience the child will have when he\she grows up. Name: Girija Seetharaman Country: usa Comment: I think that by 4 to6 mths you can begin to read to your child. Of course he/she is not interested in the pictures or the story at this time, but we are laying the groundwork. As they get older, say 9 to 12 mths, the contents become more important. It is a wonderful way to promote language development& also becomes an inspiration for new words. Name: teena Country: india Comment: Reading is a skill which should be developed in children right from birth. What could be more wonderful than listening to daddy read out a fairytale and making you sleep ? Name: ketan Country: india Comment: books are the most important and fundamental factor for good child development. They lay the foundations of children's personality and value systems. Moreove, children start enjoying books as soon as they reach the ageof 1. Initially, they may be given books only with pictures. These could be followed up with story books and so on. Name: Vinod Nair Country: india Comment: It is really great to have or to give more knowledge to our child, but it will be great if we give it in the right age i.e between 2 & 3. Name: kishore Country: india Comment: books. the books i would intorduce to my child between age 1 and 2 would be color books. language would come with talking with the child, which comes in best when the child is brought by by her mother and not in a creche. then i would look at the computer wshen the child is between 3 and 4. the scholl, after age 5 will be for plyaing, fighting and learning to be street smart Name: Navi Country: USA Comment: I have been reading to my older son since he was 5 to 6 months old.Its been the best gift I could have given him.Wheras my youngest was to fidgety and would never sit to be read to ,he always wanted to do it himself. But since he turned 31/2 he has become an avid reader. Name: Anand Country: India Comment: I agree with Anish's point that alhough computers is the latest buzzword, they should never replace books. A library of books is like a treasure. I wouldn's call a set of CD's a treasure! Name: Anish Country: Canada Comment: Books should be introduced to the child at an early age so that they start enjoying books when they learn to read. many parents make the mistake of introducing computers at an early age, but child psychologists have found that it does not help in building concentration, in fact it reduced concentration since images flash by so quickly. Since the child can turn pages of the book as her own wishes, she has a chance to explore and learn at her own pace. Name: Vinita Lobo Country: India Comment: I introduced books to my 13 month daughter when she was barely 6 months old. And you won't believe it she loves books more than toys! Books are a lot more enjoyable because each page has something different to offer - colours, pictures...it lets their imagination run wild. She has close to 30 books and she know every animal and object in all of those 30 books. If we ask her where XYZ object is, she will immediately point to it. We get he excited about new books by first asking her objects she is used to recognizing from her old books (so that it gets her juices flowing) and then we start introducing new onjects. Its great! Name: anne Country: india Comment: At 3 months I started to read to our son, just because someone gave us some books, no ulterior motives. At six months, he chose to read books, and at 3.5 he read on his own. Books were like toys, and we read to him, and he loved the stories. I'm sure it expanded his memory and his life. We had FUN doing it together. Board Books are great. Books are also comsumables. Listen to the librarians in the US: BORN TO READ! Name: Sunitha Anand Country: usa Comment: Children should be exposed to books right from when they are infants by reading to them. They should also be taught to have fun while reading & not pressurised which helps a lot as they grow up. Name: Pragya Country: india Comment: Children between the age group of 2 to 3 can concentrate properly on the books. Before that children shouldn't be burdened by the books, moreover most of them would find it easy to tear it thaan to go thru its contents. Name: Surender Shah Country: india Comment: Children should be exposed to books at a young age. It helps develop their creativity and imagination. Children do need to exercise their brains when they are young. ![]() INDIAPARENTING IN THE NEWS HOME | Comments or Suggestions | Resources | RSS Site Map | Contact Us | Advertise with Us All Rights Reserved Worldwide.
