dear pratibha,
Even though being scared of labour pains is very normal ,it shows how ignorant you are about the great phenomena of giving birth. As a woman you should realize your good fortune of possessing this GREAT gift of bringing your baby into this world .
The first thing to do is try to understand the entire concept of pregnancy and childbirth. There is a good book on pregnancy by GORDON BOURNE.This book was a blessing to me during my two pregnancies and helped me to enjoy the motherhood as all my worries would disappear once i cleared my doubts.
Secondly dont listen to anyone except your mom and gynaecologist.Your friends and relatives will have loads of horrifying experiences of their own, eventually resulting in anxiety and fear.
i can tell you from my own experience that labour pain is really a contraction which is very similar to those you experience during your periods in an exaggerated form. And remember ,it is just for a short time and i can assure you that the minute you see your baby, you will realize what a wonderful person you are!! Have faith in god and science.Today there are various methods to lessen your pain like simple relaxation and deep breathing to regional anaesthesiaby which you will feel numbness from your waist downwards.
Faith in your own ability as well as confidence in those looking after you PLUS good knowledge of whats happening will give you a very comfortable labour.
And if you have wonderful husband like mine whos very understanding and supportive and be there for you to share your every pain and discomfort, what more can you ask for!!.
just relax and be ready for it.and remember this is the only chance you get to fuss and pamper and bring the entire world to your feet!!
