Q: Thanks for all your advice, it has really helped me. I'm writing to ask for my brother. Can he use the lemon/cucumber juice as well? Also, what is the best way to extra the juice from the cucumber? Just squeeze it? And how much lemon and cucumber should i put in? Lastly, should we use toner everyday? Thanks in advace

Jen (LA, USA)

A: Yes, anyone can use cucumber juice. But if your brother's skin is dry, he should avoid mixing it with lemon juice. The best way to use cucumber juice is to smash a couple of slices, with the skin still on.

Q: Hi, I just found this site and I think its great. I need ur help. I have very dry skin dry some spots even more dry than other (like patches) what to do? I live in Europe, but when Im in a warm place I don't have that problem.

Sara (LA, France )

A: Never wash your face with hot water, no matter how cold it is. Always use cold or lukewarm water to wash your face. Apply egg yolk to your face - it will nourish and moisturise your skin. Honey is also an excellent moisturiser. Wash off after ten to fifteen minutes. This should help combat dryness. Use a non-alcohol, moisturising toner. Also, carry a moisturising spritzer with you all day, so you can spray your face with moisturiser every now and again, even over makeup.

Sujatha (Mumbai, India)

A: Splash your face with ice cold water every single day, at least ten times. This increases circulation and blood flow to the face, giving it a glow. Regular exercise also brings about a natural glow. Wash your face with day old curd every morning, for a shine. To lighten your skin, apply a mixture of equal amounts of lemon and honey and wash off in ten minutes.

Q: When I was in India I had oily skin but after coming to Abu Dhabi its been six years now my skin from head to toe is very dry. I have been taking lots of water and juice and fruits and salads.I have been applying Avon moisturiser for my face six times a day but its still dry Kindly suggest some good tips for me

Annie (Abu Dhabi, UAE)

A: Your skin is probably dry becuase of the climate. The water too has a part to play, especially if you are getting hard water in Abu Dhabi. Keep drinking lots of water. Apply body oil to your skin instead of moisturiser. Always apply oil/moisturiser when your skin is still damp after a shower, as this locks in the moisture. Use another richer moisturiser, suitable for dry skin. You could also apply day-old malai to your face, as this is very moisturising. Do this at least once a day. Wash your face with this malai or with day-old curd.

Q: Does lime and honey really lightens the colour of your skin, I have dry skin can I use this? is it safe to use on the face, I also have uneven skin on my leg, can I use it on my legs? which is better to use lime & honey or cucumber?

Niresha (Mumbai, India)

A: Yes, it is perfectly safe to use on the face. You can apply only lemon on the legs. It lightens skin slightly. Use lemon-honey if you have dry skin.

Q: My face is very dull. What should I do. My skin type is normal. My skin does not glow at all. Please help me.

Rinku (Mumbai, India)

A: Skin glows if it is healthy, and if you are healthy. Exercise regularly, go for a brisk walk or a jog at least three times a week. Try and shower with cold water everyday to boost circulation. A great tip for an immediate glow: Place ice cubes in a bowl of water, and splash your face with this ice cold water everyday before stepping out. Also, rub your cheeks with an ice cube for an instant glow.

Q: Are black freckles cancer related and are they something to worry about?

Whit (Mumbai, U. S. A.)

A: No not at all. Freckles are of simply no cause for worry. However, large moles, only if they are not even coloured and not round but of a very irregular shape, may be a cause for concern.

Q: I have a history of dry skin in my family and due to a lot of inter-marriages, I have ended with although clear but an extremely dry skin. In summers it becomes almost normal but in winter I'am in tears as nothing works. I don't want to wear vaseline or something similar in the afternoons as I can easily. What Should I do? I'm literally in tears!

Samra (Gujrat, India)

A: Apply malai to your face daily in the morning and wash off after ten minutes. Don't use alcohol based products. Generally toners are alcohol based, so make sure yours isn't. Ghee is deeply moisturising, so you can apply that to your face at night, and wash off in the morning. Keep moisturiser in your bag and keep applying it regularly. Don't apply Vaseline or any hand and body lotion, as it is not for applying on the face and the pores may not be able to absorb it, defeating the purpose. Apply only facial moisturiser. Also, once a week, apply olive oil to your face and steam it, so the pores open and the oil gets absorbed.

Q: What are some home treatments or products to use to even body complexion?

Neha (Mumbai, India)

A: You should always scrub your skin with a loofah or body brush while bathing, to get rid of dead skin and grime. It is recommended that you do dry skin brushing on a daily basis to boost circulation. Your skin will soon start glowing.

Q: Query: My skin is very sensitive(dry). Four years ago I got suntan on my sleeves, my both sleeves looks black from the upper part of the wrist.Could you please suggest me how I can get my normal skin back. Thanks

Babita (Mumbai, India)

A: Babita, when the skin is over-exposed to sun, the pigment-cells produce excessive pigment to try to protect the skin, and this production does not return to normal even when the skin is no longer exposed to the sun. Thus, the skin is permanently darkened. This can also happen due to years of unprotected sun damage. Shield your body from the sun to prevent further discolouration. Now that you have seen how your arms have reacted, make sure you do not over-expose your face to the sun. Always apply a sunscreen during the day. Try applying lime (nimbu) to your arms. Do this everyday, and wash off after 15 minutes. You could also apply lime to your arms at night once in a while, and wash off in the morning when you bathe. Bleaching your arms once a month will lighten them too. Do not bleach when pregnant. Give this some time, and if you are still unhappy with the results, you could visit a reputed dermatologist who would be able to prescribe medication. Chemical peels are also available, but unless your skin tone is starkly uneven, or if the discolouration is on your face, I do not see the need for going in for this. You could alternatively speak to a homeopath, who would be able to prescribe homeopathy medication.

Q: My skin is very sensetive (Dry). I gets one or two acne daily.I cleanse my face with Ayur cleansing milk and after that I put Ponds moisturising cold cream. I cleanse my face twice a day. Sometime I wash my face with Dove soap. I wanted to know,Could I wash with Dove soap first and then cleasing milk then Moisturiser or cleasing, then moisterising is OK. If I am washing my face with besan and turmeric then I should use my daily cleaning or not? Thanks.

Babita (Mumbai, India)

A: If you wash your face with Dove soap, you need not cleanse it. Ponds cold cream is perhaps too moisturising for warmer and humid climes, if you have young skin. It should be applied in the winter, when skin is peeling off. Apply a lighter moisturising lotion instead. If you use cleanser, always follow with a toner, or you may not be removing all the cleansing lotion. Do not use an alcohol-based toner if your skin is dry. Clean your face with a besan haldi mixture once a day, and use a face wash or cleansing lotion followed by toner and moisturise the other time.

Q: I am 28 and have a 2 year old baby. My skin used to be smooth, glossy and fair earlier but now its getting dark and rough day by day. Please suggest what can I do?

Jalpa (Mumbai, Delhi )

A: Do the following:1. Cleanse your skin everyday, twice a day.2. After cleansing your skin, apply a moisturiser.3. Apply a heavier moisturiser at night, and a lighter one during the day.4. Apply a sun-tan lotion after applying the moisturiser.5. Avoid going out into the sun.6. Also, if you travel a lot by train or in the car, protect your face from the wind by covering it with a scarf or by rolling up your window.

Q: I am fair. But my skin is dry and now is turning worst. It is becomed dull and full of freckles. So please advice something to restore my normal preety skin?

Rashmi (Mumbai, Mumbai )

A: As your skin is dry, apply a light moisturiser in the morning and leave it on throughout the day. Also, make sure you apply a heavier moisturiser during the night. Pay special attention to the areas around your eyes and mouth. Freckles are usually due to the sun, so avoid venturing out during 12 to 3, when the sun is at it's brightest. If you must, wear a cap, and apply suntan lotion. Wash your face with a face scrub twice a week to scrub off dead skin cells and freshen up your skin.

Q: I have problem of dry and dull skin which moisturiser is good for skin?

Meeta (Mumbai, USA)

A: If you have dull skin, you should exfoliate your skin at least once a week. Try St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Apply moisturiser twice a day. Use a light, oil free moisturiser for the morning, and a heavier one for the night. Try Lakme's moisturiser. Second Skin Complex from Oriflame is also an excellent cream.
